I cant run in a sports bra because my chest would bounce and I think it would set me off and make me very emotional or angry

This. However, I've become so outta shape over the past 5yrs that I'm thinking the best thing to do is to just push aside my discomfort and just do it. :/ I mean, I hate the body I was born with but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying a good swim whenever I can go... so why let it keep me from running again?

Sorry to sorta necro a topic. I just saw the title and it sparked a bit of enthusiasm. (:

@ Valerie....ma hearts with you ma dear....until last week I was an avid gym bunny MTB freak and weekly club nite tennis player....endorphin addicted maybe...?

So my enforced fitness holiday is going to be mentally challenging to say the very least.... and your ticker graphic tells me a long wait is in store for j'également

As to breast care whilst physically mobile a well fitted tight sports bra the absolute minimum...

But I think you wise to err on the side of caution... as to come all this way and damage yourself now would be tragic.... so softly, softly I fear is the smarter way forward...

So never push it

And patience the ultimate virtue (damn it)

Glad too that the joys of right room for changing has been valiantly earnt....so savour the things that have indeed come so right for you...

I like running but am not able to run much due to injuries... It's too jarring on my neck and back and my hip and knee go out and I do a nose dive

I got an elliptical jogger machine... It's smooth and non jarring and the closest thing to running that I can do

Oh, almost forgot... I also ride my bike allot  :)

I hit the gym and run on treadmills etc and bike and cross trainers (I think that's the same as Virginia is using). I also do some weights, but not to build muscle . I'm going to start some classes soon.

For those  with bouncy front appendages they do not want, remember walking is just as good as running. And less damage to the knee joints, when doing so, use hand weights and swing the arms, when you are on T this will really help build upper body muscle and lose the waist and thigh fat.

Keep fit people

Though I know that some exercise is definitely needed for a general well-being, I'm not so sure about how much and what type.

When I was an avid runner -before my knees went broke :) - I noticed that my upper body muscles got some more definition. I don't really know what caused this (weren't long distance but more like intensive 5k runs) but it was visible on the pects, stomach, shoulders and upper arms as well. I don't think it was too much but if I want to lose muscle then I'd better not be doing this. I wouldn't do the barefoot thing either, because it builds powerful calves which I already have and also want to get rid of them. I'm also concerned about fat burning which I really should minimize because of a high base metabolism and I MUST have some fat on me :) So I consider everyday training a bit too much from this aspect.

What I do now is cycling, 2-3 times a week so I have some exercise but not too much and because the handlebars hold some of my upper body weight, I'm not afraid to accidentally build muscle up there :)

I've been doing, well, thin shoed running, off and on-tried barefoot running for awhile, then quit after I got to pick a bit of glass out of my foot.  So barefoot-like running in teva sandals...but I have overdone it twice so far, and my feet are killing me right now!
I think I shall cut down to 3/4 of a mile every other day, alternated with riding laps on a bicycle, various cardiovascular things and light weights(must take care not to inflame carpal tunnels).
I have to control my calories, or else, though.

I tried for a while too, and wanted to be better at it, but it was just too much trouble!

I tried running, and hated it, but I got in to walking/hiking and its probably a much better work out for me anyways and I get to take my best friend (my dog) with me so I'm pretty happy all the way around.  Rather then make excuses not to run, I get cranky when its too rainy out (like today) and I'm stuck in the house.

I've been a runner my whole life (exercise as a form of repression/diversion), 40 - 60 miles a week, until two years ago when the knees just couldn't take it any more.

I've found the best cardio for me now is to just walk on the treadmill at max incline.  If you have a calorie counter on your treadmill just check out the cals you burn in an hour at 12 percent incline at 3.5 mpg (a brisk walk) versus running on no incline - you'll be amazed and your joints will thank you.

gonna start running again at least a quarter mile every day

If your not used to it, i can be taxing, the best thing to do is find a good pace, then slowly build.  I started running at 210lbs, i could barely walk fast for 10minutes, 1 year later i was running 6 miles at 10min/mile for a work out.  A good way to judge if your having a good enough workout, if you can still talk fairly easily you need to kick it up a bit until the only thing you can really do is breath and maybe get one or two words at most.

Quoterunning is a v.good cardio exercise. good for health and weight loss. keep it up!

Agreed. i started running around 2 years ago and have improve upon my fitness level immensely. Where's when i started I could run barely 2 min before tiring now can easily go for 30+ with short one min walking strides every 10 min. It feels so great to know just how far you've improved from that first day.
Be yourself regardless of what other may think of you. Tis your life not theirs. :)

I used to run 4-6 miles a day, barefoot or in minimalist shoes.  A year ago I developed plantar fasciatis and it's progressively gotten worse, not better.  Finally found out two days ago I have a bone spur on my foot.  I'm so hoping that a minor surgery will get me back on the trails.  I've been going stir crazy with not being able to run - I was training for ultras!  And now just walking hurts *sigh*.

Yeah, running is great exercise - just be smart and listen to your body, learn to tell the difference between good pain and bad pain.

I can't wait to feel the wind in my hair and the sweat on my body once more!
