BANGALORE: The contemporary dance show by Hemabharathi Palani of the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, staged at Alliance Francaise, recently, was driven by the power and grace of the abstract.

Two performances, choreographed by the dancer herself, encapsulating the classical Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi into the broad spectra of contemporary dance, was the artistic depiction of two topics of the time — child sexual abuse and ->-bleeped-<-.

With her powerful inflow of feelings, Hemabharathi swayed to the rapid changing moods of the music composed by Ned McGowan in Chaaya (shadow), deciphering the gleams of childhood in her subconscious into flexible movements of the body, a spectacle that transfixed the audience.
