Hey guys :D My name's Matt, I'm new around here.  I'm pre-t and everything, still living with dear old mom and dad...  I already posted once in the 'passing' thread, but since I'm going next week to get some new duds I thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas.

I have issues finding clothes because a) I'm 5'9," which means little boys shirts are almost always too short on me, and b) My shoulders are very narrow, which means the men's "small"  ::) at stores like Target and JC Penney and basically everywhere are much too floppy on me.  They make me look even more scrawny.

SO I need to work on bulking my shoulders in the long term, and finding nice clothing in teh short term.  I am trying Urban Outfitters next week, has anyone shopped there at all? It's expensive but I feel like I need the clothes regardless of price at this point.  They at least carry t-shirts in XS and their sizes run small, but I'm worried I'll possibly look more girly in more fitted clothes.

And as for haircuts, I have found one that I really like (link below)  and I think it would look good on my face and do wonders to square off my head.  But I'm not positive.  Hah and one more thing, any tips for going to the barber's for the first time?

Hi there, Matt!
I'm also looking for some new clothes pretty soon, not sure what to suggest for your height and narrow shoulders though, but workouts would probably help them be a bit wider.

You'd be surprised the difference a haircut can make though, depending on your face shape. You already seem to have a bit of a squarish jaw so it should work fine on you. I also have a similar cut to the one you'd like, I think mine is a bit longer on the top though. You should be fine with the hairdresser, personally I'm not all that sociable with them (I don't know what to say) so I usually just end up watching them through the mirror haha.
Good luck with everything though, hope you find some nice threads!

You could try American Apparel as well.  I know their stuff runs kinda small.  A women's XL t-shirt from American Apparel fits me just right--not too baggy, not too tight, comfortable on the shoulders. (My shoulders are probably a little bigger than yours though.)

Also, that is an awesome hair style.  I think I might ask for something like that myself next time I get a haircut. :)

Hey matt! You should try going to American Eagle, they have GREAT clothes that fit perfectly! I fit into a XS in mens, their clothes are very comfortable and lasts forever.

I think Topman are in the US now. If they don't have stores, I know they definitely have a US site. Their sizes go down to XS which are great for smaller guys. I'm tiny and I'm in small by Topman sizes.

it looks like your hair might already be that length in your photo.  Have you tried styling it with like gel/grease/whatever works for you to getting it to look like that?

You already have a good jawline so I think that haircut would look great.

As far as the clothes, I can't help cause I'm 5'8" but my shoulders aren't and were never really narrow.

When I was younger, I saw XS at J Crew and Banana Republic and...can't remember the third store. Banana Republic has since gone trendy rather than jungly, and I don't know about J Crew.

I'm too old to make any useful recommendations!!!

I saw an interview with Lucas Silveira where he said he got most of his clothes from American Apparel because he's really small.

Topman I love - shopped there for years, long before identifying as Trans.

Good luck with the shopping, Matt.

I third the American Apparel suggestion.  They make clothes for skinny indie boys, so they fit me great. Although the sizes run quite small, in the unisex sizes it's still best to buy a size down.  I got a button up in S and needed to exchange it for an XXS.  But the styles are all different, in t-shirts I wear small.

Oh and I love their brightly coloured y-fronts! I have them in white, mustard, baby blue, pomegranite, brown and bright orange.

Ok guys thanks a ton :) I think I'll be ordering from Topman and/or American Apparel sometime in the near future.  I really like their stuff from what I've seen.  I'm gonna try Topman's jeans too, or American Eagle's whenever I can get to teh mall.  Thanks for the input!

I end up routinely getting stuff from Old Navy, since it's casual and fairly inexpensive. I think they only go to a size S, though. However, sometimes they cut their shirts very slim-fitting, so it might work out for you.

When you go to get your hair cut, definitely bring photos of what you'd like. More than one can help, especially if you can find examples that show the back/sides. It'll give your barber/hair dresser an idea of what you want.

Try Abercrombie & Fitch, they're good with small sizes. I also second the Banana Republic and American Eagle suggestions. And I'm partial to Calvin Klein (bought discounted at Ross or Marshalls or wherever, full-price CK is ridiculous).

American Apparel might fit you well, but it's indie/hipster style, and your photo and the haircut you want look more mainstream/prep. You might find some good basics there, I don't know, I can never find anything.

Skip Old Navy if you're built small - they're the low-end of the Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy trio, so their clothes run the largest of the three, and the only things you'll find in a slim fit are those horrid flimsy gauzy t-shirts that wouldn't hide a binder in a million years and fall apart after 2 washings.
