Leonardo DiCaprio confirmed Friday he'll play gay in the upcoming Clint Eastwood biopic of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, but added that he won't be wearing a dress, HitFix.com reported.

Legendary actor-director Clint Eastwood reportedly personally wooed DiCaprio to play the film's lead.

The screenplay is being written by openly gay Dustin Lance Black, who won a 2008 Oscar for Milk, the Gus Van Sant biopic film about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician to be elected in the United States.

It really depends on the nature of the story being told.

What I recall about Hoover was that he was a big man and few would cross him.

I believe there is a picture of him made up like a fair-ground tart. That is hardly evidence of anything other than a fancy dress party.

After his death, I recall the critics and accusers came out of the woodwork. I was never a fan of Hoover or the policies he represented. But that seemed to me to be rather less believable than much of what he said.

It reminds me of the amount of information that has come out about Kennedy. It seems now, that everyone and his cat knew for certain he was a crook. Yet I well recall, when he was alive, the level of support was quite astonishing, even from his detractors.

So, the question is, why would he need to be portrayed in this way? Is it really necesary to have another round of rumour, conjecture and myth?

I would think that his life, career and activities are interesting enough.

Yeah. I've seen that one photo but we have no idea of the context. It could have been a costume party. Even Hoover's relationship with his number 2 guy is all conjecture. It's hearsay for all I know.

It's more important that Hoover be looked upon for what we really know of him.

I won't believe any of the stories until I see a letter from hoover or his supposed lover spelling it out -

"Dear [Whomever], I really enjoyed shoving my [blank] into your [blank] last night. I especially liked squirting [blank] over your..."

maybe there is truth to or evidence of this aspect of Hoover's sexuality/identity, but I haven't seen it.
