It really depends on the nature of the story being told.
What I recall about Hoover was that he was a big man and few would cross him.
I believe there is a picture of him made up like a fair-ground tart. That is hardly evidence of anything other than a fancy dress party.
After his death, I recall the critics and accusers came out of the woodwork. I was never a fan of Hoover or the policies he represented. But that seemed to me to be rather less believable than much of what he said.
It reminds me of the amount of information that has come out about Kennedy. It seems now, that everyone and his cat knew for certain he was a crook. Yet I well recall, when he was alive, the level of support was quite astonishing, even from his detractors.
So, the question is, why would he need to be portrayed in this way? Is it really necesary to have another round of rumour, conjecture and myth?
I would think that his life, career and activities are interesting enough.
