I had a peri 5 months ago, and expected to lose at least some sensation in my chest due to nerve damage. That happened, and in a larger area than I was expecting on one side. I have a 4"x4" patch above my right areola that is numb. At least, it's numb if I press on it. The flesh below my epidermis is numb. But the epidermis itself? It's super sensitive. Even scraping a fingernail across that area feels like I've set fire to my chest. Anyone else experience a combination of numbness and hyper-sensitivity? Did it ever heal and start to feel normal again?
The second thing: I was expecting to not have sensation in my nipples and areolae. They've always felt numb to the touch, even before surgery. I've never had tactile sensation there, let alone the other kind.
But here's something I never expected after top surgery: my areolae and nipples still react to cold. I went swimming in fairly cold water and noticed that my areolae had shrunk and my nipples were sticking out. I figured that this wouldn't happen any more because of the nerve damage, but... guess not. Anyone else post top surgery have nipples/areolae that still react to cold?
