Congrats on starting your HRT, Kiera!  In no time at all you'll be thinking, "damn, my nipples hurt!" and you'll love it anyway.  :)

I've seen plastic surgery to put implants into the buttocks so I was just wondering why the same thing couldn't be placed over the hips?  I would think that implants using that "gummi bear" silicone gel would do perfectly there.

I have to wonder where the scar could be hidden though.

Kiera, congratulations! The soarness is all very good... it lets you know things are happening!

Helen, I was wondering that too. It certainly seems like a realistic operation.

Also, I suppose most of us are aware about the stem cell research going on with growing uteruses, and the possibility of a T-women being able to give birth in the future. If this ever happens (and I'm sure it will eventually, I just wonder if it will be in our lifetime), than the issue of hip-width arises as a serious medical issue. If a T-women of the future has the ability to give birth, than the hips would have to be wide enough to perform the physical act. I'm guessing that either a C-section would have to be the "normal" delivery method, OR, interest will be sparked in hip-widening surgery.

Another thing... there is such a thing as hip replacement surgery, isn't there? Couldn't someone just have a bigger hip installed? Haha, I realize that probably sounds ridiculous as I'm sure that is a very invasive procedure, but I wanted to point it out.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in, since this is an issue Ive been thinking about for some time now.

As far as surgical hip inserts, and where the scars would be hidden, Ive heard of a breast implant where they simply put a bag in the breast, and then inflate it with liquid via needle.  Are saline bags bad?  I dont remember ever hearing about problems with them, but I dont hear about them at all anymore.  Anyway, inserting a bag causes much less of a scar, because of the bag's deformability.  It would be neat if they could do that to my little hips.  I have a little waist, but little good that does me when my hips are only marginally bigger!

I have my own theory behind naturally increasing one's hip size.  If you excersize your outer-most hip muscle (rectus femoris?), it seems like it would augment your hips... and hopefully in a pleasing manner.  I didnt keep up with the excersizes when I thought of it, but this thread has rejuvinated my enthusiasm to try that.

For me, I started with a nice butt before HRT and since being on hormones, I have gain some in the way of hips and some on my butt and overall, I'm prett pleased with the results.  I only weigh about 2 pounds more than when I started, so it is pretty much all fat redistribution (unless muscles shrank and fat appeared :-\).  If hip surgery was made available, I would probably forego it.  I am pretty happy with the size and shape of my body.

If that kind of hip surgery were possible I would think that the recovery would be so bad that It would not be worth it.  It takes someone months to recover from a broken hip.  This would be more invasive than that...unfortunately.  I have a really small butt and waist and have to find something to help fill out my girl jeans.

My mum just had hip replacement surgery and it doesn't change the angle of your hips; it's just a metal insert into bone. If you changed the angle of your hips, it would cause all kinds of trouble with alignment. You definitely wouldn't want to go there just for wider hips. The recovery is extremely painful, even without that added complication.

Besides, guys think girls with narrow hips are hot. Enjoy it, ladies.
