What would you do?

So as I've mentioned before, I live in Brampton, Ontario. As far as I can tell, there does not seem to be a LGBT community here. I don't really know anyone in Brampton and would like to get out and meet new people. There is an LGBT community in the neighboring city which is Toronto. I don't drive, though, which makes traveling difficult. I definately need to get out and meet people but it needs to be a positive experience. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks <3

Hi there,

I went to my gender clinic which was a two hour drive, I know you said you don't drive but there could be someone that could give you a lift. Attached to my gender clinic was a support group for mtf and ftm's. I made a couple ot good friends and see then on a regular basis for coffee, nights out and the occasional shopping spree, lol.

Also you could ask here if there are others from or near your area.

I think it's a great idea. I have considered going to the group in Toronto. Unfortunately to get there, I'd have to get a ride with one of my co-workers directly after work as they get together on Monday and Thursday. This means going out after a hot sweaty day without a shower.. it's definitely a possibility but the thought of that irks me lol.

Well by the time i get home and shower than catch the bus, I'd get down there just in time to turn around and come home. Both good ideas, though, if I didn't work so late. Thank you both kindly! <3

I did manage to find another LGBT that seems to do events during the week but also from time to time on the weekend. I might look into that one as saturdays are really the only day I can go out late.

You might contact the group and ask if any of their members live near and wouldn't mind giving you a lift.

To get out you might do ordinary things like yoga, church, volunteer for something, help with charitable groups, or you might find a local college that offers evening classes.

Laura, I suspect there are more of us around than we really know about.  I, for instance, am also in the GTA.  I'm only just barely starting out, though - I haven't done any serious dressing since I was 18 or so (mom's clothes), and I've been in denial for over 3 decades (married, 3 kids, see my thread in Introductions).  I have met a really good mentor in the area and we're corresponding by email (I found her website).  Maybe you and I could start an email correspondence?  I definitely want to meet new girls, as I have a TON of questions and things I need to learn.
