Undecided about SRS surgeon

So, after two-and-a-half years of soul-searching, I have decided to complete what I had started when I had my last "irreversible genital surgery", i.e. orchiectomy. I have come to realize that it's not enough for me that I am accepted as another woman by people around me. I want to look like one completely. So I am going to get my "partial vaginoplasty", since that is the right thing for me, considering my asexuality and my lack of any desire to dilate. I have narrowed down my list of potential surgeons to Dr. Nguyen in OR., Reed in FLA., and Alter in CA.
So far, Reed has been the most helpful and punctual about returning my emails and answering my questions. I like the fact that he is offering a one-stage procedure with a touch up later, if needed.
Alter is also a one-stage SRS surgeon. He is much more expensive than Reed, but his results are probably the most consistent and cosmetically pleasing.
Dr. Nguyen, on the other hand, is a two-stage doctor, but he is the closest to me. I live in Idaho, and his clinic is only a 7-8 hour drive away. The only drawback with Nguyen is having to come back for the second stage.
The more I think about my options, the more I am attracted to the idea of going to Reed. However, I have not had my consultation with him, so I am not sure how likely it is that I will have to fly to Miami for the second time to get a touch up. I don't even know what the this "touch up" entails. Plus, the idea of flying 3000 miles twice just doesn't appeal to me.
I guess I need more information about these doctors, and maybe I will have to get a consultation with all three of them to help me make my final decision on who I'm going to trust with cutting me. I would greatly appreciate anyone's input on this.

You might not have to go for the second stage.  If I could I would go to Dr. Nguyen, as he did my Orchidectomy.  He is very close to me, I live around Portland.

I know some girls who have had the two stage and did not go back for step two, as they were pleased with the first step.

I went to Bowers, who isn't on your list, but a little about the general idea of this:

I didn't do a consult.  The first time I saw Bowers was the day before my surgery, so a consult isn't always required (although perhaps some surgeons want it).  She said I could come back in six months for a touchup if I didn't like the looks.  I'm happy with the looks and wouldn't go back for a cosmetic touchup regardless.  My understanding is that the touchup is only to improve the looks, which may or may not be necessary depending on how successful the surgeon is the first time and how fussy you are about its appearance.  There is a huge range of what natural vaginas look like, so I doubt you will need a touchup unless the procedure was botched the first time 'round or you are very particular about how it should look.

I hear great things about Brassard in Montreal. After seeing some of his work from a friend I would agree he does nice work. Myself I had Mike Royle in Brighton UK. One of the pioneers of srs. I am very happy with Royles work also.
  Michael Royle retired in 2001.

I too was a Royle babe.....(back in 92)

However, I know from peeps going through the same process as me (I was involved with the London Institute at the time)....that not all his outcomes where complication or hassle free... especially gals having colonplasty. I would say the ratio was about 1 in 5 being problematic

(I can't imagine things being much different today, no matter whom you invest in)

All in all... I'd say my result was pretty good for that time.... and it's not impacted badly in any way on my life so far.... and as I've had a few serious long-term relationships with men to be fully confident - where my emotional and genital sex is concerned - for them it has never been of doubt, which is reassuring for sure....

However this year, I flogged a property... I've hit my tricky-dickey baby-have-it-all-boomer years and have decided to go on some vanity tweaks. I've just had an oral/dental makeover...(Hungary) tough its been, 6 weeks of downing Catafalm 50mg.....and have decided to opt for Toby Meltzer (August) for a labiaplasty clean up and some body fat shifting tweaks....as he can combine the two over a months stay.

But here's another fact....

There is no 110% safe or wisest or problem fee choice with any form of surgery.

(The factors involved are literally too complex)

We all heal differently, our bodies are all unique, how old you are, your diet and lifestyle all theses and many more aspects can affect outcomes....

But obviously... the more a surgeon actually practices a particular technique, the better he/she should be at it....but these men and a few women are only human.

And to error is a part of that condition.

So luck will always play a part in it....just like with the rest of your life!

So there you are on that hospital trolley....and you've got to ask yourself one question:

"Do I feel lucky?"

"Well, do ya punk?"

another Vote for Dr. McGinn.  I was one of her earily girls, 2 years ago and her work then (Both SRS and BA) were top notch.
