Shading now, specifically the background.

It's gray because I prefer pencil (I do nearly everthing with a .5) but I feel a little bad not doing any digital stuff or coloring.

Color would ruin my work, not that it's all that good to begin with lol. I tried a couple times to mix pencil and ink (ink for the blacks pencil can't reach) but it looks odd so I don't think I'll do that here.

But greyscale is every bit as valid and potentially-awesome-looking as colored art! I occassionally use greyscale just because I like the effect, even though for me, color is about 59873854387 times easier than greyscale, and I've alwaysfound it kind of exciting when I get greyscale art from people, because it's kind of a change of scenery from the usual colorful stuff.

Just a general note to everyone: Don't feel bad about what medium you're using! No one medium (be it digital or graphite or marker or paint or photomanipulation or whatever) is inherently "better" than another. Usually the "best" medium is whatever medium you feel most comfortable using to achieve the effect you want to achieve for that piece of art. 83

My cat eats paper and my drawing was laying out unsuspectingly so...i had to redo it. I hadn't realized how low i was on art supplies. I had to use colored pens which i somehow kept from france, I'm surprised they still worked after 10 years.

Done and all turned in!  It got colored with colored pencils because I don't have anything else, but I think it came out cute.

Might be a few days late because of scanning it in and putting together, so much research though, I've been to museums.

GOODNESS GRACIOUS. Way to take the exchange seriously-- all I did, research-wise, was peek at Google images to make sure I wasn't destroying any anatomy/colors. XD KUDOS TO YOU.

(But of no worries-- as long as you have it in before the handout dateit's a-okay, as long as I know ahead of time if you're going to oversoot the regular deadline by a bit. So you're good to go~)

xD That sounds like me.  All I did was take a peek at the colors and make sure it resembled. XD

Ergh, wanted to edit on my tablet but I can't get it to work. The drivers are fine, it just won't function. So scanned and turned in. I'm disappointed with it.

The execution was going to be poor - I had to make sure the thinking was alright.

Pffff liiiiiieeees. Your picture is GREAT.

Well thought is every bit as important as execution in making good art, I think. Many of my favorite pieces of art I've received over the years came from people whose creativity far exceeded their technical skill. I'm definitely excited to see this excellently thought-out picture of yours!

I do suspect there will indeed be more of these in the future! 8D

Speaking of which, I've been meaning to ask, what would you guys (i.e. people who are interested in participating in the next exchange) prefer:

Doing anotehr excahnge directly/shortly after this one (except possibly with a slightly longer time between the start and end dates, because the high school/college kids in the northern hemisphere are mostly in school, now, so I have a feeling a lot of people will be slowed down by homework).

OR

Wait a while to do the next one-- if so, suggest about how long you want to wait.

OR

Wait a while to do another BIG one, but do a mini-exchange to keep the art flowing. (By mini-exchange, I mean... no backgrounds/shading needed, so people who are in school/burnt out from so many exchanges in a row don't have to churn out another HUGE thing just yet.)

...tell me what you all think!

i'd be up for a mini-exchange! that could be potentially awesome
as far as themes: hmmm. all these themes we've come up with are so open-ended anyway, no?...
  •

Jeatyn

a mini exchange sounds brilliant to me
  •

Shang

I'm up for anything, but I do need a longer time because I'm in school and that takes precedence.

For themes, outer space! xD  Or aliens.
  •

Crow

If we go the mini-exchange route, I may go sans-theme and save the themes for the full-blown exchanges (unless people really want a themed mini-exchange, in which case that is ceeeertainly possible).

I personally am fond of the mini-exchange now, big exchange later plan. However, I want to see what everybody else is feeling before I come to any conclusions. Plus, even if we do go with that plan we'll need to decide how we want to arrange exchanges-- I'm thinking a winter holiday exchange that ends around the start of the new year would be fun, but that's quite a while away. What do we want to do between now and then? (A mini exchange? Multiple mini exchanges? A big exchange? Braaaainstooorm!)

I can't participate any exchanges over the winter holiday because I'll be with my family and I won't have a scanner available, but I can do exchanges of any sort before that or after that or both.
  •

Crow

A lot of people, however, have a pretty sizeable chunk of free time during winter vacation, so it would be kind of silly not to take advantage of that for an exchange. (That being said-- if your only issue is a lack of scanner, you could always just take a photo and make an "IOU a scanned version as soon as I get back to scannerland" note to go with it. That goes for anyone having technical difficulties during an exchange, really.)

But that's quite a way off-- for now the big question is what we want to do to satiate our art exchange cravings in the meanwhile. |D

The same deal we've been doing sounds good. But others will probably be more busy than I, so mini exchange?

Theme suggestion- "Brought to life."
