There was also one gentleman there who has known me for many years, long before I transitioned, who kept referring to me as "he" during the conversation with everyone. He did it at least five times. Rather than cause a scene in front of everyone, I let it slide. But I was soon to learn a valuable lesson . . .
A little bit later in the evening, one of the folks in that group of people referred to me as both "he" in one sentence and "she" in another. He had never met me before, and the comments of the aforementioned "gentleman" had left him confused. I realized then that I had to take him aside and set the record straight. Which I did, and he thanked me for it.
