Meet Nikki Araguz: ''Secret'' transgender wife fights family and Texas law over dead husband's assets [video]

Araguz, as her birth certificate states, was born male, but she had apparently transitioned to female some years ago. But it would appear that, according to Texas' laws, transgender people are deemed to remain the same gender as their original birth cerficate shows despite gender reassignment procedures. Also, in Texas, it is illegal for gay men and lesbians to be legally married.
