Oh the same ones I've been watching and working at since 1985 when she played the Trocadaro Transfer in SF (500 people).  She's move, and pose while singing, but the real bust-a-move flygirl stuff you can't do and sing at the same time.  Try it, you'll be breathing too hard to really sing.  Even the King of Pop danced, or sang, but not at the same time.

Madonna has mimed a few songs live, although they're very few. Perhaps I jumped the gun on that one.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with doing it on TV(most artists have mimed on television because of the network). It's only a TV performance, y'know? However if I'm paying to hear someone sing their songs live and they're miming a great deal it feels kind of cheap. That's just me, though.

It's true. Well, you can dance and sing at the same time, but it either sounds horrible or it has to be very minimal.

I don't think Madonna, or Gaga for that matter even knows the word 'minimal.'

I've never heard of anyone going to a concert just to hear how they sound live..lol. That's not why I ever went. Plus even if Britney didn't lip sync and just danced to her music it would've been equally amazing because good pop shows like hers are about the visual, which to me is the point of going. Seeing your fave artist in person and all the cool setups/choreography going on. I neva cared about hearing them live lol

And I never said that was the only reason either, just one of the reasons why I'm not fond of miming at live shows.

I like the variation of vocals when I see live shows, I like how they handle the songs and how they adapt to it, because it's hard work. So live vocals are part of a reason why I go see a live show and many other people go see live shows... they're apart of the reason why I like listening to a bunch of different live versions of the same song on youtube. They're the reasons why sometimes I'm bummed out that a certain backing mix of a song wasn't made for studio release. I mean, people who go to acoustic gigs aren't there for the cool setups/choreography either, everyone is different. Like I said before, everyone goes to live shows for different reasons, I'm just stating my reasons.

I've got nothing against Britney, Madonna or Lady Gaga as artists. I really like Madonna and Lady Gaga, but I also critique artists I like objectively because I'm an artist myself(both visual and vocal.) If fans like those things I'm critiquing then that's just fine, just as long as they don't take what I say too personally. I don't outright hate anyone for petty reasoning.

I'm just saying I've never heard anyone mention that. They just wanted to go to see it. And lady gaga doesn't lip sync either. lol. I've never seen any performance at least. And we aren't talking about acoustic shows. lol.

And now you have.

I never claimed Gaga lip syncs either, but in this very thread I did make a criticism about her, did I not? That's the reason why I made that remark.

And why not talk about acoustic shows? I'm talking about concerts and live performances in general and I had the impression that this thread was directed toward that as well. I was never exclusively talking about pop acts either, I've actually been trying to keep it as general as possible.

We can talk about them, but I'm just saying I'm talking about pop shows, if I was talking about acoustic shows, I'd be saying entirely different things, and I wouldn't be seeing much seeing as I've never been to one and have no interest in doing so lol.

Well, like I say, people go for different reasons and really does depend on the style of the show I think. You don't mind miming in a pop show and would rather see it as an act, that's fine. I personally enjoy all that and the vocal ability.

I've been to plenty of pop forums where people have said, "Oh the vocals were amazing tonight!" and so on. And then there are people who couldn't care any less about it. Different strokes.

Yeah :D I mainly don't care about the vocals being live cuz it's not going to affect me or my enjoyment of the show. Plus, I know Britney has talent and I enjoy it recorded or live lol. :P

Pica Pica

Most I ever spent on a ticket was £80 to see the first zappa plays zappa live tour - I saw them in Manchester and their were technical problems but it was a fantastic night. Dweezil and Steve Vai tried to outdo each other, Napoleon Murphey Brock was a character and sang great - they synched with old zappa performances - it was a good night.

But the best gig I ever went to (also in manchester) was A Hawk and A Hacksaw with the Han Hungar Ensemble for £8. It was in a decommissioned church and they marched up the aisle playing squeezeboxes and b->-bleeped-<-ipes and drums and each song segued into each other to become a proper climax towards the end. It was the force of the rhythms and the outdoors busking instruments in the echoey church that did it.

I go and see Misty's Big Adventure whenever I can, they are a local band who make just enough touring and they always know how to throw a good party.
