In Barcelona, she becomes involved with three women in crisis: a young nun, a famous actress and a drag queen. Yet, will taking care of these women help her overcome her guilt and grief for a lost child? This stage adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar's film All About My Mother features Paul Capsis as a drag queen and Wendy Hughes as actress Huma Rojo.
Alison Whyte, how did you come to the role of Manuela?
I was doing Richard III with Simon Phillips, playing Queen Elizabeth. I hadn't even seen the film when they did the availability checks. And I was saying, what role is it for? Because I just assumed that Wendy [Hughes] would be playing the mother. But mine turned out to be the Manuela role, the mother role – and it's amazing and huge and beautiful – such a beautiful film.
