ATLANTA - A federal judge has ordered a Georgia woman be reinstated to her state job. Vandy Beth Glenn says she was fired after she changed her gender from a man to a woman.

A federal judge ruled in favor of the former state employee.

Glenn was born a man and worked at the Georgia Capitol for two years as a legislative editor.

Glenn claims her boss fired her when she told him she was going to live as a woman full-time.
Glenn filed suit and a judge ruled in her favor, saying her firing was a form of discrimination and violated her constitutional rights.

Vandy Beth Glenn took a step closer to vindication today when a federal judge ordered the Georgia General Assembly to reinstate her to her previous job as a legislative editor. Glenn was fired in 2007 after disclosing her plan to transition from male to female.

"I've always know we were in the right," a tearful Glenn said in an interview in the courtroom after the hearing. "This is our time.  Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are no longer disposable. We can't be thrown out with the trash and this decision affirms that."

If she was fired for that I agree completely she should get it back, however i might be the odd one out, but there are reasons i believe that firing is appropriate:

1) If your transition causes your quality of work to diminish to the point that anyone would be fired.
2) If you cost the company money, IE clients leave because they dont want to deal with you, and new ones are harder to find.
3) You cause a disturbance outside anything normal, take note, that causing a disturbance means YOUR actions against employees.  If employees hassle you the employee that is harasser should be the on fired.

People might argue with me about #2, but i have to point out, that if your productivity goes down and your clients leave you that hurts the company, what that means is to keep you, they will probably need to fire someone else, i dont believe my life > to anyone elses and that i am more special and should be treated as such.

Too bad more information isnt available of why she got fired.. if it was discrimination woot.... a win for our side.

I flat out asked the Chief of Operations recently why they hadn't just sacked me instead of making the effort to accomodate my transition.

His answer: "My motives are mercenary. Your boss and his boss like the quality of your work and your attitude. We don't care about your gender or any other part of your life."
