In a Details Magazine's piece -- entitled Seth MacFarlane Sounds Off -- Seth MacFarlane makes a great statement about Prop 8:

snip

Details: You predicted that another episode -- about a transgendered character -- would make the LGBT community happy. It didn't.

Seth MacFarlane: That surprised me. I don't meet a lot of stupid homosexuals. They seem to be a pretty smart bunch. But it seemed that they were not picking up on the fact that it was a very sympathetic portrayal of a transsexual character.

Details: Maybe the fact that Brian barfs his guts out when he realizes he's had sex with a transsexual threw them off.

I've heard some people say that since Family Guy makes fun of everything (hanidcapped people, women, etc.) it's okay that the trans character was made fun of. However, the thing is that it's socially taboo to make fun of groups like handicapped people, whereas it is not for trans people. It's media portrayals like that that cause people to kill us!

If I had seen this episode I would have laughed.  I think everything can be made fun of and I'm going to laugh if it's funny.  I'm handicapped and transgendered and I can manage to laugh at it because I don't see it as something worth getting in a tizzy over.

This it total BS, and takes away the responsibility from the people doing the killing and I'm having none of it.  What causes people to kill us is that they are deranged psychopaths with no moral compass and no ethics.

Cartoons don't kill people, people kill people, and if I were to blame some form of media I'll find more people killin' for the bible then for Family Guy every single day.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

I didn't mean to take away the responsibility from them, but rather what I meant is that stuff like this contributes to a culture where trans people are viewed as a joke, non-humans without feelings, and this makes it more likely for these deranged people to kill us.
