how do I explain HRT to my mother?

Everyone

I told my mom tonight that I want to get a therapist and she said I don't need one. So I tried to explain that I want hormone replacement therapy, and she said that I can't get that because I haven't had a hysterectomy. What she's thinking of is apparently something that girls get after getting a hysterectomy to give them estrogen. So I told her that what I'm wanting was told to do something else, but I didn't specify what. And she said that whoever told me that must not know what they're talking about. I need to figure out how to explain it to her. She knows I'm transgendered, but I've never actually told her I am. And I'm pretty sure she's being purposely oblivious. I want to explain what HRT is without saying the word 'testosterone'. I'm really nervous about going back to talk to her now, and I need to be prepared for what I should say. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi ZomZom.  Have you tried telling her your system is out of whack and you need additional hormones to get it to function right, and avoid major problems like osteoporosis?  Not lying, just not teling all the story.

Tough crowd!

I think you are just going to have to bite the bullet on this one. Start from the beginning, I would not assume she knows you are transgendered. That would be a good place to start.

Best of luck!

Thank you =] Unfortunately I can't say that to her, cause she'll just say "there's nothing wrong with you" because that's always what she says. But if she wasn't like that your reply would be very helpful

I'm with Nicky on this one.  You need to get out of the closet or at least get some input from a professional who can better tell you what you are.
Making suggestions about needing medciations automatically makes your mother think of women's period problems - she's had a quarter century or longer to deal with those!
