I want to find the right kinds of makeup and get a little help on it. Would going to a cosmetic store and asking them to help me be a good idea or would that be asking for trouble?

MAC and Sephora stores are all too happy to experiment on you in exchange for your money (on their products).

Well, I think you should book yourself in for a make up consultation. Ring round, explain your situation. Make-up people are often only too happy to practise their trade on anyone that is keen.

I got one with my beautician and it was great! They can recommend good colors too.

Just ask for a really basic everyday look you can emulate. And from there is it just play play play!

I started my adventures in makeup by booking a consultation at the MAC counter in Belks. I called, and they asked what kind of consultation I needed, so I said I had no clue where to begin. They do this as long as you commit to buying some of their stuff (at least $50 worth, if I'm not mistaken, which sadly ain't much).

But YouTube is also packed out with makeup reviews & tutorials, etc. You can learn a heck of a lot there.

The most common mistake I've seen people make who are just starting out (and I'm guilty of it) is choosing the wrong colors for foundation and concealer. 

I'd highly recommend the consultation path.  They'll help explain to you the good pallet choices for your skin and, if they were like my experience, help you understand proper skin care.

If you're not careful, you'll end up making yourself look like a ... uhm ... woman of the night without trying.

As everyone has said get a consult.  I did when i started Transition, even when I was still part-time.  It was the best one even spent.  She taught me the basics and coloration.  I went on from there.

Once you get the consult remember, just like your voice, practice, practice, practice, practice, practice, practice.  And the practice some more.

When i'm working, i see so many women mismatch makeup choose wrong colors and all other no no's, and that is something i don't want to do. So i guess i will go the appointment route.

Just a suggestion, though my experience is minimal, compared to others.

Find the right foundation.

Once you've got your canvas right, the rest is a matter of experiment and experience. But a good foundation stands on its own.

It was all I ever used to be honest.

I did it!!!! i went in to Ulta and a lady there helped me out so much! I'm so happy  ! I'm playing with makeup right now and i can say one thing honestly and that's that i love it! If i could only get my eye brow hairs fixed up and a wig.... The lady there acted as if she was excited, she even gave me handfuls of samples and trial items! I'm set cant wait till Thursday to see the doc now! Funny thing is she said that she was use to the usual drag coming in to get flashy stuff, and that i caught her by surprise when i asked for an every day look. I feel a slight bit more peace for now.
