I think mens clothes are less boring, compared to what I used to wear. I've be abled to wear some cool prints and dress shirts that I wouldn't have worn before. Most of my clothes arn't the eye catching neon type, I'm not really one for bright colours, but I do have 6 different shades of jeans. I buy mostly teen brands from department stores, band Tees and clothes from Jay Jay's. (AUS version of hot topic.) I do own a great suit that I'll probably have out grown in three months, but I needed it so yeh.

Ha I love my rainbow toe socks :D I'd wear them but people would assume I'm gay or a lesbian(and I am definitely not either)

Most of my "interesting" outfits are second hand stuff that I've modified. It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it :D

Me and osiris seem to have ridiculously similar taste in the whole "suit up and wear an awesome hat" area :P

The joys of being a teenager...
I LOVE the less overwhelming selection of boys/mens tshirts. Colors that aren't 50% pink/pastel, and IMO there's a variety of design.
...and graphic tshirts. Walmart, what they're $10?  Thank you.

I definately fall in the camp (*snicker*) of "girls clothes are freaking overwhelming. Too much variation in EVERYthing"

The only thing that irritates me is that I've yet to find a WHITE long sleeve tshirt. Black ones I can find, not white though.

mkay I'm done...

Love this thread.

Guys clothes are not boring.  I love my clothes now.  I am into mod/modernist fashion (google it) and it's great to be involved in (even if some guys are complete nazis about it.  Wear the wrong colour socks or brand and some f the elistists are ready to chuck you in a pow camp ;D).  I have never felt so free about my clothing until I started wearing men's clothes.  I think it's just a matter of finding a style to suit you.  For me it is nice way to stand out a little from the crowd.

that's crazy, I have at least 5 plain white long sleeved t-shirts. If you weren't in a different country I could point you in the right direction :P

What used to irk me most about the womens department was the whole "oh this is nice...oh wait it has a huge freakin' diamanté butterfly on it" ...."this aint bad, shame it has a big red bow on it"

Details man, too many details. Let me add details myself please. If I want fancy tassly bits I will purchase fancy tassly bits and add them to my completed outfit.

If you have a bunch of plain-ish clothes and then a bunch of accessories you can make hundreds of different looks from the same stuff.

That always bothered me, too, Jeatyn. Ladies clothing that looked interesting often had some glaring flaw such as a stupid tacky detail that, if removed, would make the garment lose integrity or just show off a shabby area. Also, generally the fabrics used for women's clothing was often very flimsy/cheap and the construction was shoddy. Most of my men's clothing is either less expensive or the same price but overall is much better made with much better fabric.

Women's clothing tends to be flashy so it seems like it's more exciting and has more variety. But the truth is, flashy stuff is highly fashion-oriented which means that if you get that stuff this month, it'll be out of favor next month. The women's clothing that has lasting style is just as subtle as men's clothing that also has lasting style.

I completely agree with Alessandro. I always felt bound in women's clothing. Men's styling has always just been more aesthetically pleasing for me. I am in heaven now that I am "allowed" to wear all guy stuff. I can't find my own style yet because Im too busy running through so many different other styles that have been banned for so long. Crazy. Im like a kid in a candy store.

Guys' clothes needn't be boring.  One can grasp the opportunity and be a fop and a dandy.  In past eras, men were peacocks and loved ostentatious clothing.  The same can be done now.

As others have said, there is plenty to be had at the local charity shop.  And stuff from the chainstores (like good old Primark) can be combined with more esoteric pieces to produce an original result.

Personally, I don't do bright colours and never have done.  My palette is limited to black, black and black, with accents of white, grey or brown.  If I am feeling brave, a speck of red might pop up here or there.  But no one could accuse me of being drab.  I tend to an industrial/goth style in leisure time and have found Crminial Damage to be a wonderful source of W28 L30 clothing in the sales or from eBay.  For work, I have a Victorian style with waistcoats, white shirts and pinstripe trousers.  As I sometimes have mobility difficulties, I also have a silver-topped cane to help it all along.

You just need to decide your look, what items would be needed to achieve it, then use your imagination to figure out where you could get these bits from.

I would be very surprised if they wore long-sleeved white t shirts.

With a tie? Now that is a style statement.

Like wearing socks with sandals, but for your torso.

Maybe I am weird, I get excited walking into a store and finding an array of button up shirts, that all look kinda the same but with a slightly different pattern, and just wanna buy all of them haha.  I don't think guys clothes are boring at all, I love them.  But you might consider my style of dress boring.. mostly button ups, polos, and t's, with shorts or jeans.  I keep it a lil exciting though by having shirts of all different colors and wearing each color often.

Me too!  "Hey, these jeans don't look too bad... Wait, there are sequins all over the back pockets?!  Why??"  I've also noticed that most of women's clothes are made of spandex type material that makes the fabric thin and much less durable.  Plus I just hate the way it feels on my body and it's impossible to clean your glasses with!

And Jeatyn, I'd wear a tie with my T-shirts if I had one.  I love ties! :D

Also, as far as where to get stuff, I just got several shirts from Macy's that were on sale (the sale is also online). There are a lot of solids and plaids of course, but also stripes and other patterns such as leaves and geometric shapes. Some of the designs are conservative and others, less so.

Ive been wearing male clothing since 1987 and i think i'm beginning to turn into my dad. In fact i got a bargain on a suit the other day should have been £150 and they were selling it for £10. The first thing my mum said to me was ' your dad had one exactly the same as that'. I'm really struggling this year on fashion tho cos all the t shirts in the shops seem to be skinny fit and they are definitely a no go for me. Like Squirrel said tho, i can't wait to get on T and have top surgery so i can get away with wearing a pink shirt

I just went through 10 pages of shirts on macys.com. What I can tell, there are three basic styles of men's shirts ... you got the regular button ups (the more dressy variety), the western (often in plaid), and the kind of Indian Jones style with the two pockets in front. Variety is either print/no print or long sleeve/short sleeve.

@Papillon said, "One can grasp the opportunity and be a fop and a dandy.  In past eras, men were peacocks and loved ostentatious clothing.  The same can be done now." Ah yes, but in past eras that was the norm - flamboyant attire. Not so now. When you've got 3 styles of shirt (oh and if I include polos, and the variety of styles of t-shirt: regular, long sleeve, v-neck, you get 5. Whoop.) you're going to have to look for fancier pieces of other clothing.

Jackets are pretty plain. I've seen some pretty cool leather ones but they'd never come in a size to fit me. I do scarves, belts, the occasional piece of jewelry, shoes, hats ... those are all just accents though. I think the basic thing I was going for originally was the lack of variety in style of clothing pieces vs. women's clothing.

Oh and I do fully agree about needless "accents" built in to women's clothing (the sequence pockets, the bows, the obnoxious flowers, etc. etc.) but at the end of the day there's still more variety in the styles. I'm all about the "classics" because they generally just look good. But a whole wardrobe of them bores me (personally). I've been looking forever for a cool shirt with an embroidered pattern in the guys section ... but I could go in the women's section and that wouldn't be a difficult request at all. I happen to like 3/4 sleeves ... but appears those have been deemed to be "gay" in men's clothing - you're just supposed to roll up sleeves to get that "look". It's pretty hard when you're small (I'm 5'3" and about 130lb) to find things that just fit too. I saw a cool shirt the other day that had nice colors and pattern and it actually fit in the shoulders but was a mile too long and the sleeves went past my hands. As far as I know, there's no "petite" section for guys either lol. So I'm stuck with a horrid tailoring bill or to just keep trying endless places until I find one single thing that fits proper.
