Ok so I'm 25 and have a receading hairline, its not terrible but its enough to bug me when I look in the mirror.  I plan on a hairline lowering or something with ffs to fix it in maybe a years time after I'm full-time and hormones have done their job.  My concern right now is thinning hair on my front hairline.  What can I do?

So my question, for those who have hair loss problems does minoxide(rogaine) work well for thinning hair on the front hairline?  Will hormones help thickening this at all?  My hair is long enough to reach past my eyes so I'm scared if icontinue minoxidil that my hair will shed and ill be forced to cut my hair.  Should i even bother with minoxidil?  should i just bank on a hairline lowering and possible hair transplant?  Sorry if I'm all over thr place with this post, I'm on my phone and its kinda annoying to type.

How has everybody whos a victim of testosterone eating away at their hairline dealt with it?

I'm older than you but had the same problem so I saved up for hair transplants. But what I dodn't count on was the surgeon taking a strip of skin horizontally across the back of my head and then pulling the scalp back to seal it. So in fact he got the skin and cut it into small plugs to insert at the fron but the front was now further back than before!  So now I need more transplants.
I've yet to hear of anyone getting worthwhile results from rogaine or anything so best save up for follicular transplants or scalp advancement or better still both to give you a really nice head of hair that will last for many years.

what monoxidil does is making the perished hair follicle swell due to blood flow and nutrition , yet , it doesnt work with everyone judged by my personal experience , what worked with me though is DHT inhibitors like dutasteride and then a T blocker finished the job , fixed everything . however the hair line didnt change but luckily i dont have a very high hair line ,yet if i ever had surgical changes i'll definitely have my hairline lowered a bit , good luck

monoxidel worked well for me.  my front hair line was just starting to rise and thin in the middle.  it worked well for me but I've read where the suscess rate is something less then 20 %.  hrt will help too.

rylielove.

Just so you know, I and many others feel for you. It's not easy to accept the changes that seem to make our appearance even further from what we hope to achieve.

Not a particularly constructive contribution. But just so you know, you're not alone.

Consumer reports had an article on various drugs/procedures and peoples responses sometimes in the last 6 months.  Minoxidil was fairly low.  I have had good results, but think that hormones and spironolcactone helps a lot.  The highest rated was propecia, and only if used for 6 months or more.  I have been buying online finasteride which is same drug, but in a higher dosage, then cutting up.  It is cheaper that way.  The minoxidil seemed to stop stop fallout as evidenced by less buildup on the shower drain.  I have shoulder length hair, and for a while it looked like a small designer pet had drowned there.  Stopped (mostly) with minoxadil-sams club brand- used only in front.  I have actual regrowth after 3 or 4 months on the finasteride.  The temples are not as thick, but thick enough to stop embarrassment when the wind blows.

I think it is worth it, give it a go. That and finasteride if you can afford it.

It is much easier to keep what you have than try to get back what you don't. So start now.

I got thinning on the crown of my head. So I started Propecia and that really helped. It also got better with hormones, and now that my T is next to nothing I don't need to worry about propecia. Something I did not realise is my hairline had receded a little, I noticed after I started to get some regrowth!

They definitly can work, it is not a sure thing, but it is better than nothing. It takes some time. So much better to avoid surgery and wigs if you can help it.

As another bonus, if you get propecia/finasteride you might be one of the lucky few that get a little breast growth! It also works well in combination with spiro.

I think you are pretty btw!
Gorgeous eyes, great make up job! Cure kissable lips.

I've had so so success with Rogain.  I noticed it slowed or stopped my hair loss, but applying it twice a day is a bit of a pain.   I also disliked the way it made my hair feel sort of stiff.

I've been thinking a lot, lately, about propecia.   My insurance will pay for the Finesteride but not Propecia.  Since Finesteride (aka Procar) come in larger dosed pills, will a physician prescribe that for hair loss and just adjust the frequency of taking the pill?

There's a dramatic cost difference.   100 Pills of Propecia costs about 200.00 whereas 100 Finesteride is only 65.00 at my pharmacy.  (6.00 if I use my insurance!)
