6% Think Transgender Operations Should Be 'illegal'
The UK's fastest growing cosmetic surgery review website has commissioned a poll to discover the opinions Brits have towards 'controversial' cosmetic surgery procedures such as transgender operations, Hymenorrhaphy and skin bleaching.

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 24, 2010 – A new study by the UK's fastest growing cosmetic surgery review website, http://www.goodsurgeonguide.co.uk has revealed that almost 6% of respondents think that transgender operations should be made illegal and a further 16% find the procedure 'disturbing'.

From what I read of the article, it appears it's just more of that "I don't like what you're doing so there needs to be laws to stop you" nonsense.

But one procedure got a bye as long as it was for religious reasons.  If religion trumps personal feelings then maybe we should create a LGBTIQ religion where you HAVE to be one or more in order NOT to be a sinner and therefore allow you to enter the Pearly Gates.
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

So, according to the article, 94% of people don't think the procedures should be illegal.

I have to say I treat all these types of surveys with a generous dose of scepticism.

I figure that 20% of the people are nuts.  Really, truly as in 'not in touch with reality' 20% - so if all you got is 6%, then you got nothing.

It is nothing, where I live, over 50% "people" think, that have more than average income should be illegal, because it is not "normal"
There is just one good thing, 80% atheists, so no religious fanatics trying to stop medical procedures  ::)

6% is barely above the margin for error.  Meaningless.

Actually 6% is a small percentage of people. I would actually have guessed this.

I prefer to look on the bright side, it sounds a lot nicer being 94% aren't against transgender ops.

Actually it's pretty awesome news, I would have thought the number higher, but it seems that not only do most people not care, but so few actually do that it's insignificant.  You can pretty much safely ignore anything that is in a 6% range.  Few things are that certain in life, and statistically 94% is almost dead certain.   People seem (at least to the people polled) to find it within the range of normal, or at least, accepted.

Yes, I believe that is the "glass almost topped off" view.
"For transpeople, using the right pronoun is NOT simply a 'political correctness' issue. It's core to the entire struggle transpeople go through. Using the wrong pronoun means 'I don't recognize you as who you are.' It means 'I think you're confused, delusional, or mentally I'll.'. It means 'you're not important enough for me to acknowledge your struggle.'"

Like several people have said, it is quite nice to see that an overwhelming majority of the population doesn't think that said operations should be illegal, which is a great thing.

That being said, those 6 percent seem like they hold quite a lot of power in certain places :-/

wow, where I live they're legal and FREE (not somalia where they'll just place a bag of frozen peas around the organ and sharpen the machete knife) I mean Andalucia in spain.
The social health service covers the cost of male to female ops, so time for a holiday in sunny spain.

I could care less what 6% of the population thinks or the other 94% lol

When asked about Hymenorrhaphy, an operation that replaces the hymen and therefore making the woman as if she were a virgin again, 14% cited that they can 'understand' women undergoing the procedure if it is for 'religious' reasons.

That's rich. If you believe that not being a virgin is a sin so strongly, why would you think you can circumvent the rule with a surgery? As if God isn't going to know the truth.

If 6% of the people think that gender  surgery should be illegal, than 94% of the people think that gender surgery should be legal or don't care.

Isn't this a good thing!!!!!
