I am watching an old John Wayne movie called McLintock, and there are some characters who obviously represent gays because thay are rather effeminate and are bachelors, and these characters are objects of contempt and the butts of jokes, and are minor villains of the various subplots.  It seems like the film has an overall theme that straight equals good and might equals right.

I recall reading somewhere that John Wayne was gay, and I wonder how he felt about the film he was making and the part he was playing.

I also notice that transgender people are totally absent from this film.  As far as I can recall, I can't remember any transgender people in any of the old west films.  I guess there weren't any transgender people back then.  Or maybe they just didn't live that long.

I think it's time someone made a film about a transgender gunfighter, or two spirit indian freedom fighter, romance therebetween, or anything.
