Now that it's been four weeks since i had my ears pierced, i noticed that they turn fairly freely. Perhaps a bit impatient to try on one one of my new earrings, i attempted, more than once, to unscrew the backs, all for naught. Being only 2mm studs, it was a bit difficult to grasp both the fronts and backs so i could twist them free, but over the course of an hour, and several attempts, i was lost. Fortunately, both YouTube and Google reminded me that this is a not too uncommon occurrence and that the best solution was to either have someone else help you, to return to your piercing parlor for help, or to dawn rubber gloves for another try. This last advice worked quite quickly, so i was finally free of my starter set. However, while it wasn't too hard to insert my new earrings, i learned it's best to pull down slightly on your lobe while inserting, and i discovered the art, or more aptly put, the frustration of putting backings on earrings. It's certainly a learned skill, like attaching the clasp of a necklace, so i assume with practice i'll get better at it. For now, i'm wearing my blue earrings with clasp backings and hoping they'll stay put when i play tennis tomorrow.

I also learned to be careful pulling shirts above my head, since my first attempt ripped one earring free, falling to the ground. Fortunately, a flashlight placed flat on the ground not only spotted the errant earring, but reminded me that i really needed to vacuum my bedroom, particularly under the bed. We'll just call this one, serendipity.

I had a similar adventure with mine.  (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,214390.0.html)  I ended up going back to the salon where I got them pierced and they were able to remove them, with some difficulty.

Yes, I found out about removing shirts carefully, too.  I wasn't worried about the earrings, but I thought I'd nearly ripped my earlobes a couple of times.

Oh, that's exactly how it felt. My current earrings are 8mm imitation sapphire and while they're a  bit large for me to wear in guy mode, i pulled it off today when i played tennis. i've a 4mm silver stud on order which i'll switch out later this week. i'm only at the four week mark since my ears were pierced (with a needle), but my impatience got the best of me. Can't wait to try on a variety of earrings.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm such a chicken!  No piercings.  Instead, I cheated.  When my girls were in middle school they wanted piercings like all the cool 8th graders.  Nope.  We got them magnetic earrings, that look like piercings but really are a pair of small but strong magnets, placed on each side of the earlobe or whatever.  The stick OK, but can be knocked off by accident pretty easily.

I grabbed a package with 6 assorted pairs of these little cheats to fake it.  Cluck, Cluck, Cluck!

Brings back fond memories of when I pierced my ears back in 1985. It definitely takes some getting used to, but you're going to love having pierced ears. I've never regretted piercing mine.    :)

Thanks. I DO love buying and wearing earrings, even in a town where few men do. At seven weeks since my ears were pierced, i still find it difficult to insert hooked earrings, which is a shame because i love the feeling of earrings dangling down. However, the holes are still fragile enough that one ear is throwing a fit when i attempt to thread the needle. So, for now, i'm playing with a variety of post earrings until my piercings have matured more.

Did you get yours pierced with a 'gun'?  I did, and I started to have trouble inserting earrigs about a week after I removed the piercing studs, two months after having them pierced.

I ended up going to a tatoo / piercing place instead of going back to the hair salon where I got them pierced.  The tatoo guy was a scary-looking dude, and I had to listen to rap music while he worked.  But he was scrupulous about cleanliness, and did a good job of enlarging and cleaning up the holes with a tapered rod.

The next time I put in my earrings, they went in super easily.

He told me that the piercing guns do not do a clean job of making a hole.  They just kind of bludgeon the stud through the earlobe.  Certainly his work felt a lot better.

I'm terrified of getting my ears pierced. Not entirely sure why. I've had so many needles I should change my name to "Pin Cushion" but for some reason the thought of ear piercing just sends cold shivers down my spine.

I was pretty nervous when I got my ears pierced this last round, which was silly because I'd had piercings before

Anyway I have two in each ear these days

Odd thing, the rear piercing on the right ear started to close up, probably because I don't use the rear piercings as often as the first pair

I just took one of the original studs and pushed it through until it popped open again, I'll have to remember to check them more often LOL

Like you, i went to a tattoo parlor and was pierced by a needle. It was fairly painless and easy. Still, sometimes posts seem to go in the wrong way, and hooked earrings, which are easy to insert into my right ear, are nearly impossible to insert in my left ear. I'm hoping that by allowing more time for the holes to mature, i'll soon be dangling.

First pierced ear was 1982..I had to be a "queer" if you had your ear pierced as a guy in New Zealand at this time...I don't know what they would think now I have both ears pierced twice and like nothing more than a bit of bling in my ears...I love  jewellery...my secret expensive passion...I wear 5 rings all the time...prior to transition I wore nothing...one lonely stud in my ear. I got my second ear pierced the day I decided to Transition as a celebration and symbol of my impending womanhood!!

Windcheaters and woollen jumpers seem to be my downfall for having earings going flying all over the place...but it is a learning curve and all part of the fun crawling around on the floor with a flashlight searching for that favourite earring.

Give it till about the 8-10 week mark and you may find it has heeled sufficiently. Mine was still bleeding after 6 weeks when I changed the earing...This is the second piecing in this ear and after 10 weeks it is fine to put anything in and out. You can use salt water on them to toughen them up...ouch!

Thanks Liz. That's my current plan. I lust for the dangling earrings, but i'm pretty pleased i can swap out my stud earrings at will to match my wardrobe.

I love my studs.  I have several sets that are some cool stuff.  My favorite are my little blue dolphins :)  I had my ears pierced first back in like 1984 using a heat sterilized safety pin.  I did not keep anything in the holes and they closed up.  When I got them re-pierced last year, I had the salon use a 'gun' and it was quick.

I like danglies too.  Those that I own are from my mom.  I rarely wear them as she has passed and I am afraid to lose one.

I've had my ears pierced for many years but didn't start wearing earrings all the time until I retired in 2002.  I've worn diamond studs pretty much all the time since.  I love earrings and have probably 30-40 pair including a beautiful pair of sterling silver dream catchers Miss Dee gave me.
