Now that it's been four weeks since i had my ears pierced, i noticed that they turn fairly freely. Perhaps a bit impatient to try on one one of my new earrings, i attempted, more than once, to unscrew the backs, all for naught. Being only 2mm studs, it was a bit difficult to grasp both the fronts and backs so i could twist them free, but over the course of an hour, and several attempts, i was lost. Fortunately, both YouTube and Google reminded me that this is a not too uncommon occurrence and that the best solution was to either have someone else help you, to return to your piercing parlor for help, or to dawn rubber gloves for another try. This last advice worked quite quickly, so i was finally free of my starter set. However, while it wasn't too hard to insert my new earrings, i learned it's best to pull down slightly on your lobe while inserting, and i discovered the art, or more aptly put, the frustration of putting backings on earrings. It's certainly a learned skill, like attaching the clasp of a necklace, so i assume with practice i'll get better at it. For now, i'm wearing my blue earrings with clasp backings and hoping they'll stay put when i play tennis tomorrow.
I also learned to be careful pulling shirts above my head, since my first attempt ripped one earring free, falling to the ground. Fortunately, a flashlight placed flat on the ground not only spotted the errant earring, but reminded me that i really needed to vacuum my bedroom, particularly under the bed. We'll just call this one, serendipity.
