Deck the Halls was not a movie I would usually go see, but went with a group of people. There was a really unexpected element: In the first 5 minutes there is a chuckling remark about the sherrif who cross dresses. I thought it was really insensitive, not even funny at all, but got lots of laughs from the crowd. Later on in the movie you get to see the sherrif, a fat slob and stupid man. He shows a glimpse of his pink bra with a lame excuse about it being a shoulder brace. Then he bends over to pick up something and it shows a pink thong sticking up from his crack. The guy talking to him turns around and runs like he has the plague. It was so offensive I almost puked. But lots of people thought it was hilarious.
None of this was really related to the plot and made an already weak movie disturbing. That's a shame because there are some really cute parts with Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick. And the idea of the plot, a guy putting up so many decorations that his house could be seen from outer space, had some real promise.
Perhaps worst of all was the fact that this bigoted film was rated PG.
