Each morning I plan an outfit for the day.  But this morning when I put it on it didn't work.  Soon I was changing tops, changing pants, trying different jackets, adding scarves.  My bed became heaped with discarded clothes.  It was another empty-the-closet day. :P

Sometimes when this happens, I am able to come up with something that suits me.  Other times I end up with whatever outfit I have on when I run out of time and have to dash off.

I'm not the only one who has these mornings, am I? :icon_redface:

It's a bit pathetic, but I like to prepare what I'm going to wear in my head a while before I go out. There have been quite a few times where I've spent ages trying on stuff going through everything. I do enjoy it though :)

Actually sounds like a girl getting ready for a date rather than just the day.  ;D

I have a few things that I can mix and match which helps with the lessing of the "empty the closet".

Oh how I long for the day when I have the time & the FREEDOM to do just that! Then rush out the door at the last minute wearing whatever! Just last week I threw out a huge amount of my male clothes that are way big on me now. Some of the pants fit my butt and hips but nowhere else and the shirts fit my chest-but nowhere else so they all had to go. Purging is good!

I have basically three or four colors in my closet so it's easier to match stuff.

The solution: Choose your next day's outfit the night before and lay it out ready for you to put on straight in the morning. VoilĂ !

As Janet suggests, along with just about every woman on the planet, yes.

But surely the point is, how can you be just right unless you check every possible combination?

I usually know what I'll wear when I go out. I prepare before I do go out.

This. Otherwise, it would cut into my make-up time... and nothing interferes with my make-up in the morning.  ;)

Well, I do plan what I'm going to wear for the day.  Most days everything goes as planned, but sometimes the planned outfit doesn't work once I see it on my body.  Then it's: Well, maybe if I try this top instead... :-\

Trust me K8 I have those mornings well... every morning and that's even after I plan my outfits too. I wake up and go "nope, this doesn't look right. (try another shirt) nope still not right (try the rest of my closet) grr I give up. Good enough" Then realize I have to clean all my clothes up.

Aaagh, that's one thing I hate about presenting as female and having to look professional in a traditionally feminine way.  The clothing choices are so complicated and frustrating.  I try to simplify things by only wearing certain (matching) colors, but even then, you're still expected to match parts of an outfit based on style, fabric, etc. because there's so much variety.  And with a lot of the clothes, if you don't wash them a certain way, they shrink or become tattered.  Oh, and the fashions for women's clothes change frequently and you're expected to keep up with them.   ???

Though I guess all of this could be good for people who enjoy presenting as female.  It's all an excuse to spend more time clothes shopping.  And the variety could make it fun to put outfits together if you're into that.  So I guess the womanly response to an empty-the-closet day would be, "Hey, let's go shopping!"   ;)

Personally, I can't wait to find a job that allows me to present as masculine.  I just want to wear men's suits to work, just like I mostly wear jeans and t-shirts in my free time.  My goal is simply to look ok without putting much thought or effort into it.

You can drive this to the extreme by buying several identical clothes, as I do. Less to think about. Disadvantage: it's nerdy as hell.

Haha, I already do that!
