Hi.  I hope it's OK for me to post in here, I'm actually FtM but I had a quick question that's really important.

Is it true some MtFs use Depo Provera to increase breast size?  Or even just progesterone in general?

I'm only asking because I've been on the shot since May and have noticed an increase in size.  :(  Maybe from less than an A to an A or full A?  I really have no idea on cup sizes, but I will say pre-shot I could just wear a T-shirt and not have to bind at all and now I have to wear a guys undershirt under my tees.  :(

I'm due for my next shot in about a month and now I'm not so sure what I want to do.  Btw I'm a gay guy so I am on it for protection.

I use progesterone cyclically.  And I have noticed some filling out.

Thanks for replying so fast.  :) OK I feel really stupid, but cyclically is on a cycle right?  Kind of the same way somebody builders use steroids?  Do you know if progesterone only works up to a certain point or if it keeps making breasts bigger until you stop taking it?

I do it to mimic a woman's natural cycle.  I don't know about body builders.  I imagine that it works because it comes in waves.

Oh OK.  Do you mind if I ask you how long you have been on progesterone and how much growth you have noticed?  Sorry if that's too personal.   :embarrassed: I'm just really trying to figure out what I should do?  :( :(

Talk to your doctor about adding it.  I have gotten fuller and I can tell because I fill certain bras more now.  And if I go bra-less, I look like a woman who is bra-less.

Thank the gods for boobs.  :D

Like Janet I take mine cyclically for the same reason she mentioned... I am also noticing a rounder more filled out shaping

I went up a cup size (small B to small C) on Depo. It sucked. I also got pregnant (while on Depo), which added most of another cup, and then deflated it away after.

You got pregnant on Depo!?!?   :o I always thought it was the most accurate form of birth control outside of an IUD or sterilization.  Can I just ask if you were diligent about getting your shot every three months or were you a little late?

I was diligent - but even if I hadn't been, the conception happened about 2 months after my last shot. Every form of birth control has a failure rate; Depo's is about 2 in 1000. I was one of the 2.

I inject depo for breast growth.  It is also the drug given to child molesters for "chemical castration" (certainly not why I take it).  We can't discuss dosages here, but I inject monthly, while you inject every 3 months for birth control.  The dosage is the same.  Other forms of progesterone are also used by some, especially those who cycle.  There is a bit of a "political correctness" concerning natural or synthetic versions, though all are derived from vegetables.  The makers of the "natural" versions do not claim any superiority of their formula.  I personally prefer the synthetic because it can be injected, bypassing the liver to some extent.  Some doctors believe that any form of progesterone has no effect, while others believe that it helps form milk glands and a "more complete" breast, which may increase size and produce a better shape.  I have found myself lactating on several occasions, which never happened while on the standard estrogen/spironolactone combo used here in U.S.  Unfortunately, one of the side effects of progesterone is an increase in EATING.  I believe that happens to women (certainly my wife) during that time when her progesterone levels are high.  I hope that answers your question about MTF progesterone usage.  Now, the second part, I think, was your personal concerns as a FTM.  Have you gained weight generally?  That could account for the growth.  The package insert with the bottle, it comes as a standard liquid dose, seems to indicate that a gain of 7lbs is about average. You may find that just watching your weight controls the problem.  Of course almost an "A" is pretty small and a little weight makes a big difference, or maybe your body was a little low on the progesterone so you got a "spurt".  OOPS, it doesn't help, but the girls here are jealous as hell!

OMG you know when you said you have found yourself lactating on several occasions I just about fell off my chair.  I just started lactating today!!!  And now I'm thinking that is what accounts for most of my chest growth.  The milk and the mamary glands getting bigger.

Yes I have gained weight.  I gained about 10lbs in 5mos of being on the shot but I'm like 5'9ish so I do feel that most of my chest growth is because of the excess milk.  At least I hope so.  I won't be getting anymore shots though.  Btw how long did your lactation last and how much was coming out?

Also sorry to everyone who's jealous.  :(  Believe me I'd trade with anyone of your chests in a second!

I think Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) either depo or oral is one of those drugs that affects people very differently.

Some people gain weight, some don't.
Some people have bad mood swings and even depression, others don't.

I know that many people here like to say,"your mileage may vary" (ymmv) so I do like going to the experts.  Please see the following quoted study;

"here is, though, one big drawback: weight gain, enough to make you go up one or two dress sizes, according to a new study published today in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology .
In the study, more than 700 women were allowed to choose among various contraceptive methods and then were followed for three years to measure their gain in weight and body fat. Those who chose the Depo shot gained an average of 11 pounds over three years and experienced a 3 percent increase in body fat compared with an average of 3 to 4 pounds and less than half the increase in body fat for those who used other forms of contraception. I asked study author Abbey Berenson, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, to explain what this finding means for women. Here are the edited excerpts of our conversation.
Should we all say no to Depo?
Not necessarily. Only one quarter of the Depo users in our study experienced a significant amount of weight gain. Most only gained a few pounds, the same as the pill or condom users."

Later in the article it goes on to suggest that skinny white women gain the most, while obese and/or black women gain the least.
Now I would never try to influence another persons/doctors choice, I don't know enough about interpreting the statistics for someone else.  I personally use depo, and find I have to fight the bulge.  It does seem to be a common enough problem among many people using the drug, is listed as such on the manufactures fact sheet enclosed with every dose that I have purchased and for those reasons felt that forewarned, he could do his own research, based on a bit of guidance.
Phew, finally, I only lactated for a short period, just before another injection when my hormone levels were, perhaps, a bit low.  I think it was twice, maybe a day apart, and not much quantitatively, but enough to wet my shirt right where my nipples were.  I completely enjoyed it as an affirmation of sorts. I am not out at work, so guess I have to be careful.  But I work in a super male dominated environment and anyone commenting would get questioned about why THEY were looking at my chest!

Progesterone when cycled increases the bodies sensitivity to Estrogen without having to increase the actual amount of Estrogen in your body thus would cause additional breast growth.

The way it works is that the progesterone receptor needs to be activated by estrogen the presence of estrogen makes your body receptive to progesterone conversely when the progestersone receptor is activated by a progesterone molecule it will in turn up-regulate the number of estrogen receptors on the surface of the cell.

Basically fluxating levels of P mean more sensitive E receptors.
