Liam H

Heya,

I'm an 18 year old pre-T pre-op [but full time] transman from Melbourne. At present, I'm just at the start of transitioning, having been refered to a gender clinic last week. I've known I was one of the boys since I was around five, was strongly discouraged in that by my parents. At thirteen I found out about the concept of transsexualism, and made a deal with myself to wait until I was 18, because I thought I was either trans or crazy. Got to 18, still felt like a guy, finally came out earlier this year - now I live as a guy pretty much full time, and it's like being able to breathe for the first time. I'm looking forward to making things right.

If there are any other Aussies around, anyone know of any Melbourne based groups? Don't know any other transpeople IRL, and I'd like to change that.

All the best,

-Liam.

Hey..... This is a great site. You are young and like all here seem to know what you want. Look forward to your posts. This is a fun and stimulating site. There are amazingly smart and compassionate people here. I don't know anyone from Australia but hope you find some....:) Welcome and take care...

Hi Liam, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 3900 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another brother. :icon_hug:

And be sure to check out these links ( MUST READS )

Hi Liam,

I'm in Adelaide. There are quite a few Aussie TG people at Susan's and several in Melbourne. Post in the Guys section as well and I'm sure they will find you. Melbourne  seems to have very good TG support at both social and medical levels. The Monash TG clinic has a very good rep.

Oh by the way. Welcome Bruce, from yet another Aussie Sheila

Hooray for Melbourne! :D

I've been to two different Melbourne groups before. One was fantastic, and incorporated all types of folks from everywhere on the spectrum, but has since disbanded. There is another group, I am not sure if it is still around, but it is mostly made up of late-transitioning transwomen and so may not suit the needs of a young man.  I've heard there is another group out there, though I don't know who they are or how to track them down.

Sorry Liam, that's not really any help at all, is it?  :(

There must be a group out there somewhere. I'm sure there would be.

If you are going through the Monash Clinic, they may have some information on local groups. I'm not sure who the new doctors are that replaced the two that left, but I'm sure they would be well informed about support services in Melbourne.

I wish I could be more help!

Oh, and welcome to Susans! :)

Hi Liam,

Welcome. I'm from Adelaide, you've found a great resource, and lots of friends, there are a few aussies around, and from the information I've been able to find there are a lot of supports in Melbourne.

Hugs,

Sarah
