So i found out via Groupon that a local laser place is having a deal on laser hair removal:

http://www.eastsidelasercenter.com/services.html

The normal pricing seems kind of on the expensive side ($308 for full face), but the discount deal is $185 for three sessions.  My concern is that as stated in the above link, the 'laser' they use is IPL (from Palomar Medical Technologies specifically, if that matters), and I've read on here that IPL is less effective than actual laser.  But at the same time it seems like a pretty big discount.

I haven't started any laser yet, tried electro back in winter but that wasn't effective, either because of being pre-HRT at that point, or from reading one of the other threads on here it seems they didn't have experience with male facial hair, as it always felt like they were plucking out hairs rather than sliding out hairs, which from the thread I read seems to show they weren't doing it right.  $2000 wasted, which is why I've been hesitant to start back up again.

So yes, my question is, is it worth it to try IPL at this place given the huge discount?  I'd really like to get started again with hair removal but I really don't want to waste a bunch of money again.

Thanks!

The place I go to charges $185 Aussie, (about the same in greenbacks this week apparently) for a whole face treatment.  They started with IPL, then moved on to different laser in the following sessions.  They can run higher power with a medical laser because they are associated with a doctor.

I have had 5 sessions so far, and doubt I will need more than 2 more with the progress to date.  From what I understand the situation varies across the US regarding regulation and pricing, but $300+ seems a bit steep.

when the electrolysis current heats the needle tip to red hot it most likely burns the follicle into a mess that swells as the lidquid vapourises and makes it tight in its hole so that force is needed most of the time but some hairs do slide out easy...add to this the follicles being in different angles so they may bind tighter in the hole or if they are in a shallow angle they may not have much skin pressure on them and will slide out easy.

IPL is much less effective than true laser hair removal. In my area full-face is $100-$150 per visit. Generally it takes between 6-10 visits to clear the entire face, but some electrolysis will still be needed for the stragglers. Save up and get it done right.
