Well, I guess you can't say it was a rip off, they didn't charge me for the time lost, but... I did lose three weeks of my time!

Yesterday was my appointment with my hormone doctor guy, and I get there and fill out this ->-bleeped-<-ing useless insurance questionnaire asking ->-bleeped-<- like if I'd been pregnant, if my periods were regular, my sexual history, like, what the ->-bleeped-<- does this have to do with me just getting hormones? And they were supposed to send that to me through my email so I could fill it out ahead of time instead of making me ten minutes late... Well, I found out they just thought I was a regular gyno patient (my hormone doc is a gynecologist). The stupid ->-bleeped-<- that gave me the appointment didn't put on my file that I was trans, even though I told her I was going there for hormone replacement therapy. After waiting in the waiting room for 30 extra minutes, a nurse comes in, takes me into a back room, and tells me that the doctor won't see me unless I fill this packet out (It asks more useless questions about my past, how long I'd known I was trans, how I felt about being trans, what my family is like, stuff he doesn't need to know. Just get me the damned blood test and prescription and leave me alone >:C  ). She said I was supposed to get it in the mail, and I said I was never even asked for my address. She said it was MY fault because I didn't say I was trans, just that I was going to see him for HRT. He, the receptionist, and his nurse all new I was coming because they talked to my therapist on the phone... And got my letter...

She then told me that he only sees trans patients once a month, after hours. I was like... what the ->-bleeped-<-? What is it, like, a communal blood test? She acted like it was a support group of some kind, she didn't really say. I'm thinking, I don't want your stupid support group, quit pulling my chain! Aaaugh so mad.

Either way, I'm switching to the other available doctor I can go to that my therapist suggested. I'm not dealing with this guy and his bull anymore. Ugh what a huge bummer... I've already waited a year, this is killing me.

I'm sorry man. That's messed up! Stupid people :( I'm sorry. Hope that other doctor gets you on T soon.

I hope so too. I picked up my girlfriend afterward and moped the rest of the day with her, haha.

It's whack that you had to wait and it seemed disorganized but really asking those types of questions has to do with your overall health history and hormones effect those things. No one really likes to answer those types of questions but it gives the doctor a better overall picture of your health and if there's anything they should be concerned about before they issue you a prescription for hormones that are going to have effects on you.

As for the other packet - if that was something they were supposed to send out to you and never did, then that's their bad, but again, asking for that info is a formality that I believe most doctors take because HRT is a life-changing decision. They want to make sure people have thought it through, etc.

The fact the doctor only sees trans patients once a month is kinda weird. That seems like he's trying to keep it all low-profile or something and not mess up his "image" of just being a gyno. That's lame.

I think it is bogus to ask any of that. I did not have to fill out any questionaire and only got asked a couple questions before they did my blood work. The first one was totaly uncalled for and you do have to remember that HRT is for cispeople also and does not send the message of being trans-anything.

The letter from your therapist should have been all it takes to get the appointment right. I would be upset if I were you but this is one place where knowledge and a degree set the rules. All you can do is play ball with an unfair court.

My doc asked all that and more, and then gave me the spiel of all the potential side effects of T, good and bad, and I had to sign a consent form.  This was after my therapist letters also.  I like him; he is thorough, gives a real physical exam each time I go, and is professional.

The once a month after hours thing seems bogus, though if he is a gyn might be hard to explain the parade of men with appointments during regular hours  ::).

Sounds like a transphobic office to me. Even though the delay will suck it's probably best to go with the new doctor. He'll be cooperative and can maybe get things moving faster. You'll have to keep going to your doctor during HRT. Do you really want to deal with that office several times a year? Getting a new doc is annoying for now but in the long run it will be better.

That sucks.  I think it's pretty common for busy medical practices to be that disorganized.  I was once referred to a urologist because my GP thought I had a condition causing inflammation of the bladder because I had the symptoms of an infection but no infection.  At the urology clinic, I was surprised to discover that I had been scheduled to see a urologist who not only had no knowledge of bladder disorders but pretty much exclusively specialized in penile cancer and reconstructive surgeries for it.  In his office, there were brochures about a procedure that looked like a phalo for bio men.  He had been told that I was there for a UTI and needed anti-biotics.  When I told him what was actually going on, he wrote me a prescription . . . . but it turned out to be medicine for incontinence.  I found this out a month later when I finally got to see a bladder specialist - "How's the medication working?"  "Well, it still hurts.  And now it's really hard to pee."

Just wanna say, I've seen your posts a few times and I think you're adorable. You remind me of (don't kill me) Kirsten Dunst. A guy version, obviously though lol.

I'm really sorry that you had so much trouble though. Hopefully you can see the doctor soon. Believe me I never thought I'd get on hormones, even when I had an appointment and letter. My appointment was set up a month in advance I was like FUUUUUUUU dnw to wait lol. But once you get on hormones you will be like I can't believe I'm actually here and you'll forget about how it feels right now, hopefully. It's all worth it so stay strong <3

Don't feel alone Alexmakenoise. My father went to hospital to have a triple bypass done and they had him down as removing an infected toenail. What?! :P

Yikes!  That sounds serious.  I hope he was able to get his triple bypass.

Yes, he did. They had to reschedule it the next week. I hope the guy who was just getting a toenail removed didn't get a triple bypass. :eusa_doh:

This incident did reinforce to me to always make sure you're put down for the right surgery or procedure and the doctors all know. I've read way too many stories where someone had the wrong thing operated on or the wrong thing removed. :-\

Sounds like the American medical system in action to me! One of the many reasons I try to stay out of it as much as possible!
