Bullying isn't the only form of abuse suffered by gay and transgender teenagers in B.C. high schools, says New Westminster author Rebecca Haskell.

The homophobia they deal with can be much more subtle. And many schools aren't putting a stop to this abuse, she said.

"The teens we spoke to told us homophobia was something they encountered every day," said Haskell, who co-authored the book Get that Freak with Simon Fraser University Criminology professor Brian Burtch.
