Seeing Past Gender

One of my favorite websites posted a blog piece from a mother of 3 today that I thought was touching and inspiring. The article isn't actually about TG, the woman who writes the blog's 5 year old son wanted to be Daphne from Scooby Doo for Halloween. She was perfectly okay with this, which I agree with completely. However, a lot of other mothers criticized her for allowing her son to dress like a girl masking their hate as "concern". I know that there are parents, siblings, and other family members on this site, and I thought this might be nice for them, or anyone, to take a look at.

I think that this goes to show that children, unabashed, and unknowingly have the ability to see past the constraints that we come to know as adults. I think if we could all be as brave as Boo, and as compassionate as his mother, the world would be a much nicer place. 

I hope to have children one day, and I can only hope to be as amazing as this woman. Enjoy!

He is so cute and his mom ROCKS! I'm certain that there will always be people who openly have to express their 'concern' for us in a way that only hurts us. The expectations that our so-called liberated society throws at us is nothing less than intolerable.  I too wore girls clothing when I was young but my mother stopped allowing it (I think at my father's direction)when I was around the age of 4 or 5. Thanks for posting the link!

The boy is so cute!  And I would like to congratulate the mom for not being stuck-up and willing to let her child have fun.

What a great mother to have such a clear view and defending her son against this close minded ridicule. There should be many more people like her.

I just can't get over the craziness of the mothers who act like kids playing dress up is going to ruin them, or that boys pretending to be princesses or girls pretending to be cowboys makes them gay. It just doesn't.

Oh! And may I add that the this line in the article is my absolute favorite:

Won't lie. I was a naked kid until I was 5 or 6. I still HATE wearing pants. I am jealous of people like Lady Gaga who go through life without having to wear 'em.  haha

xD  I hate wearing pants, too. XD  I'm definitely a nudist at heart.  I can't pull off dresses or skirts anymore so I'm out of luck, lol.

I tend to give in when it's cold out. That and Jeggings are my new favorite thing. I just hate how restricting pants are, and I can still be limber (well, as limber as my clumbsy self can be) and feel unrestrained.

Funny thing is my clothing tastes kind of transitioned in the opposite direction from my body.    Typical blooming intersexer - can't make up my mind!

When I was a little (almost)girl I was all frills and skirts and pretty dresses. As I have often said even to the point of bending my school uniform to include a kilt in place of trousers. Once I completed my transition and SRS, though I do still wear the odd dress or skirt for a special occasion it's mostly trousers/jeans and jackets or tunic tops for me.

In that respect I think those of you who go FtM definitely end up with the poorer end of the deal.

You should have seen me in high school....I was all about the skirts, the frills, the "pretty".  I was completely into it--it's why, if I transition fully, I'll probably be a cross-dresser. xD  Though for job interviews and such, I'd wear a nice pair of pants and a nice top.  I still do that, but it's because I can no longer wear anything with a heel. -.-
