Prominent gay rights activist Nathee Teerarojanapong said the decision meant transgender people could ride on a vehicle decorated as a giant krathong that previously had been reserved for straights only.
The Chiang Mai Municipality Office issued a regulation three years ago allowing only "ladies or gentlemen" on board the krathong vehicle, arguing that transgenders dressed and acted improperly while attending the parade.
