Out Magazine Explores the Debate Over the Word "->-bleeped-<-"

It's an age-old debate in marginalized communities — do we rally against the use of words used to insult and demean us or do we reclaim them in an attempt to transform their meaning? But even as the LGBTQ community is increasingly reclaiming words like "dyke," "->-bleeped-<-" and "queer" (while justifiably maintaining that their use when backed by bigotry is offensive), there's one word that is still the subject of heated debate — "->-bleeped-<-."

Out magazine explores the debate that has been fueled in recent months by the questionable usage of the term in popular media by presenting opposing viewpoints from transwoman and gender theorist Kate Bornstein and Justin Tanis of the National Center for Transgender Equality in "The Trouble with ->-bleeped-<-."
