Replying to personal messages

Im having a problem being able to reply to a message someone has sent me. I read that you need to click on their profile, and reply that way. Im unable to do this as I havent been registered to the site long, so do not have over 15 posts yet. Is this the only way I am able to reply to people? I dont want the person thinking Im rude and ignoring them...
