Cheques.

I have a problem.

A number of people have sent me cheques however they've done so in my old name. Will it be possible to me to cash them in?

I have my old bank card (albeit disabled) and my deed poll if need be. Dose anyone have any experience of this?

Short answer is yes.

Though it may require you to temporarily out yourself when you go in to the bank.

A deed poll document in English law can be read both ways - thus it can be used as evidence of your old name as well as proof of your new one.

You probably WILL need to explain the full circumstances to the bank clerk and/or manager though.

PS - I have indeed done this myself although several decades ago.

If you have an account you maybe able to just deposit them in your account.  I used to do it through the ATM.  Sneaky, but it is perfectly legal.

My bank had me sign the check in my old and new name. I only had to do one check before my name was changed on all my back accounts, cards and checks. It does out you but hopefully you won't have to do it much and the teller won't remember you.

That's a big thing I hated about changing my name on things. It outs you until you get it done and everything's consistent.
