I would doubt most surgeons would be willing to do payment plans, how would they repo their work when you quit paying.  There's always credit cards or companies that specialize in surgical financing, etc.

I heard on this board that some surgeons do payment plans.  But I see what your saying about that.

One trans guy took out a loan so I guess that's what maybe I should do. But would they let me take out a loan for top surgery?

I was wondering about that too. I know Garramone in Flordia does credit card and finacial payment help stuff haha check out his website i beleive it should say something about payments and such. or you could take out a loan. i had a friend who did that haha

For Garramone, you can book pretty much as far ahead as you want and pay in as many payments as you want as long as you are totally paid off 2 weeks before your surgery.

When a surgeon says they do financing, in my experience this just means they have affiliation with one or more medical loan companies and will direct you to them.

It will be hard to get a loan if you have no job and little income. Especially now that the financial institutions are cracking down on that. Giving mortgage loans to people who couldn't afford them was part of the problem of the housing market and financial collapse.

Talk to some surgeons and see what they say. They might have some advise on these things. As for if they'll give you loans for top surgery just tell them it's for surgery (if they even ask). You probably won't have to go into detail with them.

I've wondered how that's impacted the surgical costs associated with transition, it used to be you either refinanced your house or tapped in to your 401k to pay for surgeries.  Neither of which works any more.  Even the car companies used to advertise financing for "well qualfied customers", I just heard an ad the other day that used the phrase "very well qualified".

I had a 702 credit score when I bought my house, last I heard the threshold was 720 to get a loan.

I had avoided saying that, I've heard they're are cracking down on what they're used for, but generally speaking a student loan can be used for any purpose that enables you to attend school.  Traditionally like buying a car, paying rent, etc of course, but I've never heard of anyone getting busted for something they paid for with student loans.
