I am going through a hard time with finding out who I am. Am I male? Female? Bi? Lesbian? Straight? It's all driving me crazy right now and to be honest I am not sure how much more of it I can take. Also on top of that, there is the constant bashing on the LGBT community that I seem to face a lot lately. And, the fact that bottom surgeries for FtMs (and MtFs) are not very promising results and it will not function normally really depresses me. I have heard some people say that "times are changing". That made me think. Will times get easier for us too? In let's say 10 years or less from now, will surgeries have promising results? Will the discrimination not be as bad? What do you think?

You know Josh, Most people want to see things get better, not just for us, but generally.

But the reality is, those that actually cause problems are usually a small number. They just happen to know what they are doing. I can't offer any solutions of tactics to deal with it simply because I have never managed it myself.

All any of us can do is try to avoid these situations.

I think things will keep getting better for us.
Just read that science is now working on reprogramming cells to be what ever is needed.
In the future you may not need surgery.
They will just put a few of your cells that were reprogramed back in your body.
After a few months - many months, you will have the parts you want or need.
In 10 -15 years that technology just might be available.
And as trans-people the changes in acceptance over the last 15 years is mind boggling.

I think things will get better as years go by. LGBT is slowly moving towards a positive light over the years although there is still some way to go... we are definately more accepted than 10 years ago. I wouldn't say it will be very much better in 10 years time but it will still be a progress... Give it 20-30 years then we will be talking of something.

If you compare the surgeries done nowadays with those done in the 60's, we now have vastly better techniques, although still non-functioning. With ongoing stem cell research, it may very well be possible to artificially grow organs and body parts in the future but these technology is still being researched and we may or may not see its maturity in our lifetime.

We have to be hopeful and fingers crossed.

Maybe you can just  be "exploring all the facets of your personality" , or  something equally New Agey.   I don't know how old you are or where you live, but young people today appear much less rigid in their self definition.  I'd say be happy with a fluid existence, until you find a comfortable spot to settle.  I'd leave any forums that are unfriendly, and let the members know why.

As for medical advances, by definition we don't know what is around the corner.  It will be interesting to see.
