Also known as eyelid surgery. For as long as I can remember, I've had droopy skin that covers my upper eyelids. If you look closely at my avatar you can sort of see what I'm talking about. Sometimes the skin over one eye will droop more than the other, making things even more not-so-attractive. I talked to my eye doctor but she said that my case isn't severe enough to get it covered by health care.

I don't really mind too much until I try to put eye makeup on. Shadows smudge off (and I use expensive top-of-the line-stuff which shouldn't do that), and the shadow, mascara, and liners usually all smear together under that extra skin.

I went for a consult with a surgeon in my area, who can also make my eyes 'look' more feminine, for a pretty reasonable price. However, everyone else that I talk to about it says I'm crazy and that I don't need anything like that done. It worries me though, and makes me feel self conscious. But I also hate any kind of surgery and recovery and all that stuff.

Has anyone had upper blepharoplasty? If so, did it help with keeping eye makeup on and nice looking? Is it worth getting something like this done for the sake of makeup, since I do love the stuff? Does it really result in a more feminine look?

Thank you!

I had it done a year ago, but I'm in my sixties.  I had it done to open my eyes up more (from another's viewpoint).  I don't think it affected how I wore makeup at all.  It can give a more wide-eyed look.  It also slightly changed the shape of my eyes and moved some of my eyebrows to the upper sides of my eyes, neither of which I like.

Here's before:

Soon after:

And several months after:

Would I do it again?  I'm not sure, although I think I look a lot better in the last picture.

Thanks Kate, but before your operation what would happen when you put eyeshadow on your lids, for example? With me, you can hardly see my lids so eyeshadow is pointless at this point.

That is quite a dramatic improvement I must say!

I don't know about eyeshadow on the lids - I've never used it. :icon_redface:

Some of the change may be hormones, too.  The first picture was less than 7 months HRT.  The last picture was 11 months HRT.
