I never have requested a change on my birth certificate.  I've never needed it.  But I've never updated my visa either.  I wonder what hassles I'd go through to get it changed in Utah...... HMMM.

What's RealID?  No, I have not considered it.  I don't even know what it is.

I've toyed with the idea of changing my birth certificate, but since I was born in the UK I would have to go thought their bureaucracy to get it done, and I'm not sure how easy that would be.  I don't envy you folks in the U.S. with this Real ID dilemma, it's even starting to affect us here in Canada where we will be required to have passports to fly into a U.S. airport, then the following year we will be required to have passports to cross the Canada U.S. border.

....and the thing is that our government is silent about what will happen to transsexual people (especially those who have not had SRS and were able to change their gender marker) when this law takes place.  According to an article I read...and I will try to find the link and post it here.....some transsexuals are already encountering problems when it is time to renew their DL's or ID cards, for the Department of Motor Vehicles is requesting these people SRS letters to renew their documentation.  If these letters cannot be submitted, the DMV is threatening to issue a renewed license or ID card with the birth sex....so yes....it is a huge, huge, huge problem IMO.

That's sure is idiotic.  I know that here in Ontario we are required to submit our SRS letters to MTO (Your DMV), and that these letters are kept on file as part of our record.  Don't they, wouldn't they do the same thing.  Having to keep presenting these is redundant to me.

I really don't think that it will be that much of a problem. I could be wrong. I have not had my birth certificate change either. I know I could get it done real easy as I was born in California. I have only used it once since I got married (that was a long time ago so I don't even remember if I used it then or not), I had to have it for my passport and they sent me my passport as female with my picture. I had big hair then and had to have my picture taken twice as they didnt accept it the first time. You will still be on file as your birth name and gender, even if you get it changed. You will be an alias. The courts and the police can pull up your file and it will list all your alias. It is the computer age. There is nothing secret about you lives anymore, especially the people who had to have an SS# when they were born. We had to get one for our daughter and she is now 37. Now, Bush has signed a bill that allows the government to snoop into our mail. I have gone stealth, except everyone knows.

Sheila, if I were you, I'd try to change all my documentation ASAP...just to be on the safe side.  Like you said, California has a very simple form to fill out in order to change your gender marker on your BC.  For sure you will save yourself a lot of headaches later on...
