Alright sorry for my constant questions lately but I had to call my college today and it dawned on me. I go to an online college who has my very female name listed and all stuff is done over the phone or through email. So when I call them and my voice has dropped, will they talk to me?

I'm afraid they will think it isn't me and I can't ask them to change my name for fear that they will put my preferred name then I will graduate before it's changed and there will be a diploma for a person who doesn't exist sorta. I want to call ahead of time to see if they will work with me but I am very afraid of how it might go over :/ Any advice?

Tad

I wouldn't worry about throwing in your preferred name. They can always change it back for you before you graduate. But really, if you're living life as male, why not change it at school!

And I;'m sure they would talk to you anways, they just might need some confirming stuff like DOB, etc.

They'll talk to you, I guess this won't be a problem. Just say 'yes, this is me' and confirm some sort of personal information if asked.

In my college, we have a thing called 'social name', actually the whole country uses this denomination. It's the name you chose, but not your legal name. So, in college, you have your chosen name in the docs that are just for internal use of the college. The external docs are in our legal name. That way, we don't have problems when we need the docs to prove that we go to college or something like that.

That's true, and a good idea. Thanks Tad :) I never thought of them changing it back if I don't change it in time. Stupid $500 fees. I'll give them a call on Monday and see what we can work out. Thank god for being able to introduce myself in my class intros. I'm a little worried about that though too because normally I introduced myself as Alex. The whole class can see my legal name next to my posts each week but usually when I introduce myself as Alex they all use it. This'll be my first time introducing myself with a gender specific name. It's ridiculous really for me to be afraid because I've been out for 4 years in everything else and even in high school my teachers knew my preferred name. I blame it being because of it being an online school. :/ sorry for the complaining I'm doing man. Just stressed about it for some stupid reason.

Marcelo- that's pretty awesome. Some of the schools in my state are working on transgender policies for incoming students like that. Wish my school did something like that but my school is out of state. I have no problem confirming something so I guess I'll just do that.

Also if you're just changing your preffered name - it's not changing your transcripts. you have to change your legal name in the system to do so. Now some schools will change your legal name without a legal name change thus changing your transcript (what I had done) - but you have to specifically ask for that.

When you changed your name in the school system and stuff did your HS diploma also change with your transcripts?

Tad

No, I only changed it with my institute. I'd have to contact the province for my high school and my college for my college transcript to change them (but good luck on that - fundamental christians gay and trans are evil!).

However, since no one ever looks at those transcripts, I don't see the point in changing them. If I ever do need them I'll figure out what I had to do to get them changed. (Legal name change is coming up this month).

I would try to make my voice sound higher and say I had a cold. If it's a for profit school they probably don't care as long as the payments are still coming.

High Schools will rarely change their records even with legal name change docs.

Yeah, I know sadly. I graduated less than two years ago from a school nearby. I'm hoping that I can get my name change soon and go to the school in person to ask them. Explain the situation and hope for the best. If they don't oh well but I was curious to find out if anyone else had been able to.
