Hello!  I just recently found this site on google (trying to look up hairstyles, oddly enough) and thought this would be a cool place to check out.  I'm Alyssa, MtF, just starting my transition (which means I still look like a guy and all, unfortunately) though I've gotten pretty good progress on my voice.  I love anime, love reading sci fi and fantasy, and listen to all kinds of music from electronic to indie.  So yeah, I dunno how to end this soo, hi everyone!

Yo and welcome.
Seeing as you're thinking of hairstyles I'll refer to your handle and suggest you dye your hair blue and leave it at that.. that's what I did. ;)

Haha... if only my job would allow that.  I'm thinking of dying it some kind of red/blonde though.  (i'm a brunette)

It's good to meet you.
This is a great place and hopefully another step in your transitioning.
Susan's has loads of info about gender issues and is a great support site.
There are lots of good caring people here who are in all of the phases of transitioning.

Well, I've looked up a lot of tutorials on youtube, especially from the user candiFLA.  Basically, you start by talking really high, and kinda like falsetto (where your voice sounds like a boy cartoon character), then squeeze that till it gets a different, more feminine tone.  Then just keep working on that, trying to lower and relax it over time, recording yourself, testing different strategies, and making sure the bottom part of your voice is barely vibrating.  It takes weeks or months for some (about three or four months for me), and it just takes lots of practice.  And drinking water when it hurts, taking breaks.  Fair warning though, my voice cracks when I speak like a guy now, so I try to speak in more of a high pitch so that my high range doesn't totally get screwed up.

Avril is pretty good.  In that style of music, I prefer MCR though.  xD

And about the CD thing, I know!  It's so hard to stop collecting them...  Especially when you get spoiled by used bookstores and amazon where everything is super cheap.  >_<

Welcome to the forums, Alyssa. :)

Thanks for the voice tips. ;) And btw, another music lover here, so I totally know what you guys mean about the CDs... :D If I had any money to spend, it'd probably be the same for me. ;D

Hi Toxicblue! I'm new here too.  I noticed that Nitorin is your avatar! Isn't it wonderful that there's a serious anime about transgendered teens airing right now?  I wonder if earlier generations would have ever thought there would be a cartoon regarding transgendered people as anything but a punch-line!  The second episode airs tonight, I'm so excited!

Sorry to geek out at you in your introduction post!  I hope your transitioning is a comfortable and wonderful as it can be, and that you are treated well for the rest of your life.

Welcome and best wishes,
Fuji

No problem!  And music just has that ability to manipulate you... doesn't it?  D=

Ha ha, you're right, I got Tuesdays and Thursdays confused.  Imagine my sadness when I turned on the TV tonight and it said I had to wait two days! Weep! I think I can hold out until then!
