One foot in the closet, one foot out?

I want to partial transition by going on hormones but not getting the operation down there, and live as a boy most of the time, although a rather androgynous boy at that.

It makes me wonder, is it even really necessary to come out to my parents? Our personal lives are pretty much "Don't ask, don't tell" when it comes to myself and my parents, and I feel like it'd be easier to just avoid it altogether. Should I feel like I have to tell them?
