Before transition, I only wore men's shoes. A sales guy approached me while I was standing in the men's section, the shoe of choice in my hand. He asked what size, and I told him. He went into the stock and came back with a pair. I damn near killed myself trying to put them on and had to double check the size, which was correct. WTF? He offered half a size larger, and I said, "I don't think that's going to be big enough..." At some point, I realized that he had substituted the comparable women's model, in the numerical size I had asked for--in women's. I got the right shoe eventually.
That's the only salesman I ever met who substituted a female shoe for a male shoe. I was very sensitive about the gender thing, so I was steaming mad. I was still ranting as my partner and I left the store. He said, "Well, what do you expect?" Uh, I expect him to bring me the exact model I asked for.
Okay, I know it was an honest mistake, but still...
