It is good that the U.S. Department of State, the first US federal government agency or department to do so, has now recognized the existence of intersex people and the fact that the passports of US intersex citizens need to reflect reality – after a fashion.
The text of the US Department of State's manual concerning this policy update – 7 FAM 1350 APPENDIX M INTERSEX CONDITIONS (DISORDERS OF SEX DEVELOPMENT) – unfortunately does not fully reflect reality but far too much of a rather bankrupt ideology. Well, it's a start.
