I watched it - or rather, it was on and my GF watched it while I was doing other stuff - and it was sympathetic, sincere and all that. But it was as binary and stock as you could make it. Look, she must be a girl, she likes to use make-up, oh it has to be a boy, it's boxing... There was no real depth to it (well it is on the OWN network), pretty much like an empty box with pretty paper wrapping.
