United States currency has become so inflated that you can sell the copper in pennies for more than the pennies are worth.

It is illegal to melt down federal coins.

Actually there is only about 2.5% copper in pennies these days:

But you are right, if a penny was pure copper, it would be worth more than a penny.  And it is illegal to deface or destroy US currency.

A law permitting the killing of Scottish archers in York has not been explicitly repealed:

However, the article points out that
""In most cases, the implied repeal argument would probably work," said Mr Coad. "Whatever people in York may think about Scotsmen with bows and arrows, they would have a hard time avoiding several centuries of homicide acts."

Presumably the laws permitting the killing of Welshmen in Chester and Hereford should also not be put to the test.
