what a difference a place makes

Oregon is so very beautiful with all the giant fir trees and forests, rivers and lakes everywhere. There is another kind of beauty here also, a beauty even more spectacular. Our new town has a law against discrimination in housing, employment and accomodations because of sexual orientation or transgendered orientation. this small town has an SRS surgeon who also does FFS and all surgeries related to transsexuality. we have an openly gay councilmember. the high schools have rules regarding transgender issues. the library has a large seperate transgender section. there are several gay/lesbian and transgendered therapists listed. i'm sure there's lots more.... and this isnt even including portland!

Does this place actually exist it sounds wonderful, or is it a mythical one. I think that you should keep this under wraps, or I could see the population exploding.

Portland is a beautiful place. My wife and I lived there for about 3 months but unfortunately at the time could not find jobs or we would still be there. Have you been to the Rose gardens yet. I forget my compass direction but if you're down in the historic district they would be 180 degrees from Mt Hood. It's uphill and you go through a beautiful neighborhood on the way up. Also there is Klamath Falls. You go NE I think. and do take a ride in the country side towards Beaverton it is just absolutely gorgeous. We went up to Mt Hood in May and there was a snow storm at the top and down in Portland it was 75^oF. The hotel up there is the one that was shown in Stanley Kubricks version of The Shining. Well I could go on about all the stuff to see and do but I have to go. Glad you're finding Portland such a wonderful place. We loved it when we were there and the people are just fantastic.

we havent had the strength to do anything but find a place to live , my beautiful new granddaughter was born. it was a wonderful day.

back to the subject,

this town looks great on paper but i know there are also many ultra conservative people here and happiness with an area is mostly dependent on those people we come into contact with daily.

Don't write off the ultra conservative. I know a couple of utra conservative, Bush boosters who think my transition is a wonderful thing. Personally I think Bush sucks eggs but that is another post. I know a liberal guy who doesn't even want me to wave at him from accross the street, and has said some nasty things to me. Liberal or conservative you can't really tell how people are going to respond to you until they do.

Hurry up and get settled so you can go and see all the wonderful stuff in Portland. When we were there, there were some great blues and jazz clubs on the river front. Get out and have some fun!

i wasnt writting anyone off, i know there are exceptions, but generally we will find more acceptance from liberals IMO. we will get out as soon as we can, but we have the rest of our lives to enjoy the area, getting settled comes first.

Hpe things are settling down for you now. A move within a suburb is big enough. A move interstate is enrmous.

Hopefully the anti-discrimination stuff you describe is a sign of things to come.

Hey, you moved here so quit ur bitchin. One thing they didn't tell you is that there is a mandatory quarantine to make sure that you are not infected with any conserative viruses.

Course you won't be released until the next election and maybe not even then depending on how far the contagion has spread.
