How's Transgender-Life in Minnesota?

So after two years in California - which were pretty cool, actually, aside from Los Angeles being a rather rude and unfriendly place in general, got back into school and got straight As for two semesters, rebooting my chances of finishing my degree and getting a professional career - my significant other and I are moving to Minnesota to be nearer to her mother as she undergoes cancer treatment. I'm transfering to one of two schools in the Twin Cities (just waiting to find out which) and will be finishing my last two undergrad years there.

What's life like in Minnesota for transgender women - particularly in the Twin Cities? How's the acceptance, employment opportunities, housing opportunities, etc? And is there any sort of Planned Parenthood-esque Free Hormone Prescription program in the Twin Cities, like there is out here?

Minnesota is grand!  I love it here!!!

There is a shot clinic that will give you your shots if you can't give them to yourself.  It also hosts a trans support group that meets every Wed.  They host a national transgender health conference every year in which many surgeons come and give free consultations.  Transgender is a protected in the Human Rights Act ... very welcoming community.   I attended Hamline University and had a wonderful experience.  Feel free to PM if you have questions or want recommendations on doctors and such.

Rob's got it spot on. I've got some pride in Minnesota with trans stuff.
I know of at least two support groups for adults and one for youth. And Minnesota is generally all round liberal, especially the Twin Cities, so you'll be fine.

For a trans whom is pre-everything in rural Minnesota, I've found this to be an excellent state. The Twin Cities has a very active LGBT scene, but I personally don't live in that area.

I didn't realize how many other members here live in MN. Makes me feel a little less lonely.

In the Twin Cities, there's a ton of resources, and fun. Campus life is particularly easy, at least at the three colleges I know the trans culture of, with loads of groups and supportive people therein. Elsewhere, well, high school was hell, let's just say that. Colleges are bound to be at least a bit better though, even the community college I briefly attended up on the Iron Range had an okay trans presence.

the twin cities is ok pretty much across the board (save the taxes and 2 seasons: winter and MNDOT construction)

employment is as bad as anywhere else (depends on profession and getting lucky), housing is reasonable (although mixed in quality greatly), and there's a low income lgbt clinic in st paul (and stick around long enough to be a resident, and mncare/medical assistance just about makes therapy, meds just about free).

attitudes are generally live and let live, although watch out for minnesota "nice" (read: passive aggressive) people.
