Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's latest thriller, "The Skin I Live In," had filmgoers fleeing the theater Thursday night at its gala premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, due to some aggressively violent and disturbing content.

The film, which stars Antonio Banderas and budding actress Spanish actress Elena Anaya, focuses on a mad but brilliant surgeon (Banderas) who kidnaps a man who raped his daughter.

[...]

Banderas then gives the rapist a sex change and transplants his deceased daughter's face onto his body.

That's just we need - a cool horror film that says being transgendered against your will is a suitable punishment for rape ::).

hmmmm
The idea has merit.
They get sentanced to permanant medicaly induced GID. Pretty hellish.  >:-)
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Why not? They used to use estrogen to "cure" gay people.

Well, finally something knocks "The Human Centipede" off the top spot in my list of Really Bad Ideas For Films.

Ever heard of an eye for an eye?

I think reconstructing the eye is against Sharia law.

But seriously

What do movies like this do? There was a discussion with Sam Peckinpah why he got so vivid in the violence in the 'Wild Bunch' Peckinpah  suggested that the degree
of violence would put people off being violent. Yep. That worked. So now we have movies that explain how to torture. I'm leaving the current one alone i haven't see it. I have to admit I will not.  Where is the thought? Where is the creativity? Where is the art? Art may be an impossible thing to define , but the day rape is art we have lost a part of humanity that took a long time to work through.

I must be getting old.

Disagreeing with the theme or content of a film is fair enough but it's not ok to print a spoiler without warning!  >:(

~RoadToTrista~

I'm necroing this thread because I recently saw this movie, and the article is way off. SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) The guy doesn't rape his daughter. They both get stoned and it starts out consensual but the girl starts to freak out in the middle and bites him really hard so he slaps her to make her let go and she ends up knocked out, then he puts her shirt back on and leaves. Antonio Banderas's character thinks it's rape.

2) It's his wife's face, not his daughter's.

3) There's only one rape scene and it's not Antonio Banderas. Antonio Banderas shoots the rapist. There is a lot of sex and nudity though.

4) Banderas doesn't perform the vaginoplasty, he lies to a group of surgeons to perform it (which is still pretty unrealistic but w/e). There's also a scene where he teaches "her" to dilate.

5) The violence is EXTREMELY exaggerated in the article.

Good points here Trista.  But movies have been changed in the past when it bombs at the premiere.  Also given the source of the story, FOX, who are 'Fair and balanced'?  I think we all should be wary of any FOX sources cited in this forum in the future.  I do not see any published reviews that resembles the story as told by FOX.

I'd like to blame it on me getting old as well; but I'd hope if I were half my age I'd still have no desire to watch something like this.
