I had my first appointment with my therapist today. She has exp with transgenders but she has never given a letter for hormones because they have already been on hormones but she is still willing to help me. She is the only one in my area that does this or anything close to gender therapy. She asked me what my doctor wants her to do before she gives me a letter. Well 1. I don't have a doctor yet. 2. Is there a certain time period that she has to see me before she gives me a letter? Can anyone help me with how to explain this to her? Doesn't she just have to see if I'm like mentally "okay" etc? Help :(

There is absolutely no required time period she has to see you for to write you a letter.  If she is comfortable writing you a letter for HRT, then that is all that is needed.  There is no required time limit as per the SOC.

You should find a doctor or clinic in your area that would be willing to prescribe you hormones.  Ask them what they will require from your therapist.

If your therapist doesn't know what to say in the letter, he/she would probably be able to contact WPATH and find out the classic wording for a HRT letter.

I don't know where you're located, but here in the states the APA does actually have a required waiting time of 3 months.  This is supposed to give your therapist time to make sure you're "mentally okay" as you say, and make sure you fully understand what you're getting into and that it's right for you.  That's not to say that all therapists follow the SOC (Standards of Care), and some doctors will give hormones without a letter, but that's not something I'd count on since it's not typical.  I would start looking for a doctor now and just see what they want from you.

I am located here in the states.  There is no required waiting time unless that is how your therapist interprets the SOC.  The "required time" from the APA and the SOC are only recommendations.

Thanks guys. I talked to my endo and he said it doesn't matter how long I'm in therapy as long as I get a letter he will accept me. So hopefully I will get one soon :)
